Does anyone have any tips for me! My puppy is 5 1/2 months old and we think she is coming into season.

She has been aggressive the past few days, bit me and tried to hurt my two young children.

I want to iron out this behaviour and any tips would be greatly appreciated

Firstly welcome to K9

What makes you think she's coming into season, what signs is she showing, if it is that( or something else) she may be in some pain somewhere hence the aggresiveness, it may be that she doesn't want to be touched if it hurts her some where, mine tend to be moody when they are in season but not aggresive, I would probably ask the vet to check her over just incase (with muzzle if necessary).

As she had any trauma recentley that may have triggered this behaviour? say from the kids, I know that I once had an incident with my son when he threw is self onto the settee while Sienna was on there landed on her and she bit him more out of fright than anything else, it never happened again but he is more careful now.

Is this totally abnormal behaviour for her? if it isn't she may be trying to be the dominent one, pack leader which you will need to reinforce the fact that, I will leave that to other people who have had the same problem, so far i have been quite lucky in that area, although I do make mine go in their crate for time out if they get too big for their boots

Good luck I hope you get it sorted soon :luck: :luck:

Is she a Whippet? They do not USUALLY come in season so young and NO, aggressive behavior is not a normal for bitch coming into season anyway. I would definitely look for other reasons for her change, and definitely show her you are the boss

Here is a link to k9 FAQ dealing with seasons

Five & a half months is VERY early for any bitch to come into season but as Seraphina said especially in Whippets. Also Whippets are renowned for being very UNaggressive & easy going, even when in season.

Usually they tend to go off their food for a while & if anything go a bit quieter, they will start to bleed & their vulva will swell considerably.I would be inclined to take her to your vet for a check-up as it does sound more like she is maybe in pain rather than a season. :(

Good luck with her :luck:
