Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I have a question about something I’ve noticed on my dog for a while now and would appreciate any insights from experienced dog owners here.

My dog has had some small black dots on her nipples (only on 3 out of her 8 nipples) for a few months. They don’t seem to be causing her any discomfort—she’s eating, playing, and acting completely normal, with no fever or other symptoms. So I don’t think it’s an emergency, but I’m still quite concerned.

I did some research online, and some people say it could be blackheads or clogged pores, but I’m worried it might be something else, like parasites. It kind of looks like something could be living inside the pores (which is making me feel uneasy).

I tried gently pinching or pulling one of the black bits out to check, but my dog clearly didn’t like it—understandably! I wouldn't like someone doing that to my nipples either…

I haven't taken her to the vet yet, since there have been no signs of illness or pain, but the black dots haven’t gone away after all this time. I’ve attached some photos to show what they look like.

Has anyone seen something like this before with their dogs? Should I be worried, or is this something harmless?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice!

This looks similar to what my dog's belly usually looked like - it might simply be dirt so ingrained it's never going to come out (maybe also resulting from walking/running thorough gorse or similar). So my guess is she's fine. However, that is a GUESS - it's not possible even for a vet to diagnose from photos, so I strongly recommend you book an appointment to be sure.

I think if you are worried then ask you vet for their opinion. They won't mind and it will put your mind at rest.

Probably nothing, but to be sure, you should have your Vet check it out. Perhaps you could send pictures.
