BLAZE
Blaze is an 18 month old greyhound boy who was not fast enough for the track. He is a real stunner of a dog, with a beautiful fawn and white coat that is in very good condition. Blaze has a very alert, intelligent face and is sure to draw a lot of attention when walking with his new owners.
Blaze has not been with us long and we are still assessing his personality. So far though he has been just superb. He is friendly and affectionate, enjoying the one-on-one attention he gets on his walks. He walks well on the lead and has a bubbly, playful personality just waiting to shine through.
Blaze has behaved very well with our other greyhounds and hasn’t caused an ounce of trouble. He has not been tested with small dogs or cats, though these can be carried out prior to adoption if requested. Often ex-racing greyhounds take a bit of socialisation work to realise smaller breeds are in fact dogs as they would never have seen them before.
Blaze is still very much a puppy at heart, and would relish a home with another young dog that he could romp with and spend some energy. He would also do well in a home with kids that would teach him to play ball and keep him busy. Once he matures a bit, however, his ‘real greyhound’ is sure to kick in and he will become the 45mph couch potato that greyhounds are renowned for.
Blaze has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and allow him time to settle and learn the house rules. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE: AUGUST 2010**
The stunning Blaze has settled very well in to our kennel routine, and is such a lovely boy. He is friendly and outgoing, loving his daily walks when he gets to socialise with other people and dogs. This boy is sure to make a fantastic family addition and he is going to attract a lot of attention for his new owners.
This gorgeous boy is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Blaze, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!
