i have a scoodle thats been to the vets 3 times now costing an arm and a leg .they were treating him first for a gasteric problem(kept been sick) a course of antibiotics was given and a jab x A week later he had a poo and what looked like a 2 " twig in it ! He then started poo'ing a dark jelly like poo with bright blood in it a trip to the vets twice and more antibiotics ..still the same could he have something inside him causing this problem should i ask for an xray as i really cant keep paying out over £30 a trip for a jab or 4 tablets !!!

Without insurance nobody can afford but we do find a way for our dogs its just the way. Just keep a keen eye and do whats right.. Hope things settle down for you.

Hi Tinselangel

How is your little fella now, are things settling down a bit?

I'm not medically-qualified in any respect and wouldn't dare presume to second-guess your Vet! However, my dogs have had jelly/slimy/blood-flecked poo (sorry to be so graphic lol) of all kinds over the years and from what you've said about it being bright red blood, it sounds a bit to me like a problem with his bowel now - such as colitis - rather than further along his digestive tract. It could be as you said that the twig-like object had been passing through his system and causing all of the problems, maybe if he's passed it out now then it could have scratched him internally and the Vet's just giving him antibio's to prevent any infection whilst the wound heals. If so then it could take a while until he's completely back to normal, and an x-ray wouldn't necessarily tell you any more than you already know (you'd run the risk of him having an anaesthetic as well).

How has he been in himself, eating/drinking/behaving normally? Also, what has the Vet actually told you? If you're still concerned and you feel as if you're getting nowhere with the Vet you've been seeing, it might be an idea to seek a second opinion and take things from there. Good luck anyway, and I hope your dog is fully recovered very soon.

All the best

Chris
