I emailed my local MP not so long ago in support of this ban, but she was more interested in the regulation of the industry than an outright ban. Personally I'd much prefer a ban (though regulation is vital, of course), but of course opinions will differ.

I would also be in favour of a ban shortly followed by a ban on horse racing especially the jumps. I think while a ban for greyhound racing may be feasible because its not really as popular as horse racing nor does it involve the sums of money that horse racing does , it will still take a lot of work because of the amount of people involved and the amount of money they stand to lose.
As for horse racing the amount of money involved in that is vast, immense and to ban that will take more than a little persuasion mostly because greyhound racing is often seen as a sport of the working classes whereas horse racing is seen as a sport of the upper classes and many of the supporters of horse racing are sitting in seats of power.

Yes, I'd be happy for both 'sports' to be banned. For me, a big issue with greyhound racing is litter size - of a litter of, say, 9 pups, I very much doubt they would all end up on the track so the 'wastage' is huge. Even if the ones that are 'surplus to requirements' end up in good rescue homes, they still swell the huge number of dogs up for adoption - and there are far more dogs up for adoption than potential homes.

Greyhound racing kills and injures dogs. From 2017–2023, 1,230 dogs died trackside, many more were destroyed, and there were over 31,000 injuries. We believe it’s time to follow Wales and ban this cruel sport.
