A trip out with the ferrets and whippets this morning, albit foggy and very cold, was worth it.The farmer asked us to hunt a certain part of his land.

As with all ferret trips , rabbits slipped the nets and the dogs missed several.

It was a decent mooch around the fields and the whippies had a great day out.

Got me out the house, with the dogs and ferrets, something alot of us enjoy, I,m sure.

1st photo shows Max waiting for bolted quarry, today he caught 3.

looks like you had a good day mate, watch those nets dont tangle on those twigs around the bury entrance.

Total rabbits , caught, should keep the farmer on side for a few more trips out.LIke I said we did miss a few, due to missing a few buries, hence the dogs having some courses.

Still there be there next time.

Well said, Sparky, the nets get laid, bit awkward with blackthorn etc, then the ferret will alter them, balance of being quiet trying not to disturb the surrounding area, and letting the dogs having a course.

Whippits just love these trips out.

Well mate, you had a better day than me. Me and my lad went out to one of the farms we have permission on locallly. It was misty here as well and a fair frost on the ground.

We saw a few rabbits running around from the farm yard , so we thought we`d have a good day. We saw a couple of rabbits run into a 4 holer at the top end of the field, which is about 20yards from the nearest hedge or wall, and ideal for bolting bunnies from for the dogs. We entered the ferret and waited, dogs held at our sides. First rabbit bolted and the dogs ran it turned it but it managed to get into the hedge and away, straight afterwards 2 more bolted before the dogs could get back , I hadn`t netted either

It gets worse, we moved on to another bury netted up, got the ferret in . After 30 mins nothing, so we tried the locater. we pinpointed the ferret just to one side of a small tree , within a hedge of holly and thorns. I painfully got into the hedge and started to dig. After what seemed a lifetime , and a few moves and new digs we found the ferret about 5 foot down. I just about managed to break through and stretching right into the hole could touch the ferret who had latched onto a rabbit. I tried to grab the ferret with one hand and stretch my other hand up the hole to grab the bunny . Guess whta i got, the ferret and no rabbit!! As soon as I grabbed the ferret she let go of the rabbit and it shot up the burrow out of my arms reach

At least I got the ferret back!!

Consolation was a couple of good runs in the last field before we went back to the car freezing and a bit p----d off, but that what`s ferreting is all about

Some great days, some not so great days, we wouldn`t have it any other way though, would we????

:D :D :D

WOW! brill catch Mike, your dogs are coming on in leaps and bounds!

Nigel better luck next time ;)
