Afternoon Everyone

Just been told need new central heating boiler (!!!!!! ). Pups due any day now :sweating: - boiler unlikely to be in before New Year  - what is going to be the best way to keep the pups warm  - there are so many different kinds of portable heaters but want to make sure we get the most suitable type.

They are going to in their 'own room' (dining room) as it is floorboards so any mess can be cleared up easily - thought about keeping them in the living room with us but didnt think that would be a good idea in the first few weeks particularly with people in and out over the holidays

So any useful suggestions as to best type of heater(s) = appreciated

Cheers

Kath

i have a convector heater u plug them in and they blow out hot air. these r good i use mine in the conservatory as thats where the dogs r @ the mo. only takes about 10 mins and its warm. hope all goes well with the pups, typical 4 the boiler 2 go now!

I always use one of those infra red heating lamps that they use on farms to keep chicks warm you can get them from West Cumberland farmers shop just hang it above where they are kept and keep out of the drafts ---ideal with pups--all the best Steve

ps also if you go to a bike shop they have some great boxes that the bikes come in that make ideal play areas or easy clean whelping boxes-you can dump afterwards--when soiled --hope this helps

Hi

pups thrive best with either under or above heat - i use heat lamps - infra red bulbs which give out heat - the pups then dont have to use their energy to keep warm but grow and develop much better.

you hang it above their sleeping area - it will give you instructions as to how high above - not too low down and if the pups are too warm at any stage they move away and then come back - its a great steady source of heat for them.

you can buy them from most horse outlets - do you have a countrywide near you?

heat pads are great also but only while the pups are tiny as when they are up on their feet and chewing it would be dangerous

best of luck

ps. my boilers dead too so i know how you feel - i have a heat lamp on above my bed too!!!!!!!!!

;)

Thanks everyone for your advice re the heating problem!!

- much appreciated!!! :huggles:

We've arranged to pick up a large box from a local electrical store - one which has been used for a freezer or the like, to use as a whelping box - so at least that's sorted - We don't intend to have any more pups so it didnt seem necessary to make or buy one.

Again thanks all

My pups are born and raised during the first few weeks in our small study and I use an oil filled rad which is safely behind the puppy pen, keeps the whole room warm.
