Hi Im new to the forum and have been reading a lot of the current topics. I have noticed that those feeding a raw diet have mentioned feeding bonemeal. where do you get this from and how can you be sure of its content? i just wondered.

also does anybody have a grinder for grinding their own bones? well i mean not their own bones of course, animal bones. :p

You can buy it already, its usually comes in a tub at any good pet shop/supplies.

Blood and Bone that you put on your garden is ground and dehydrated blood and bone. Bone meal would be very similar, although probably manufactured by somebody else, I would imagine made under different rules, as it is intended as a food stuff. Albeit for animals.

Be VERY VERY careful where you store this if you do use it. I had it WAY back on the kitchen worktop where they have never been able to reach and somehow 2 years ago Chelsea got it, and ate about 1/2 the pot and almost died from the blockage.

You wouldn't think they'd actually EAT large amounts of stuff that probably tastes like sawdust, but she did. It made a cement like blockage in her intestines and to this day the vets are amazed at her recovery as she lost so much intestine and was in pretty bad shape.

Another hour or two's delay on me bringing her in and her going under and she wouldn't have made it.

So please if you do use it make sure the dogs cannot get to it.

Blimey! What a scare. I only ever use it when I have got puppies (puppies?? what are puppies, it's so long since I had one I've forgotten what they are!) but I will bear your experience in mind cos TJ is such a thieving swine!!!
