I was wondering if anyone has any experience of wireless (not through a landline) or satellite broadband?

I have just found out that we qualify for a rural grant to get wireless or satellite broadband. We have to get at least 7 people from the village to sign up for it, and we can apply for a grant. Apparently satellite is the most expensive. I have been given an enormous list of providers, and have to provide 2 estimates for installation. I just haven't a clue which ones to ask. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

A charity I work for used to have a satellite broadband - they were out of adsl range. As far as I recall we had about 1Mb down & 256kb up link. It worked out at about £80/month. I applied for a grant for supply & installation through Rabbit I think it was.

It ran reliably for 2 or 3 years until they moved into an adsl enabled area. My only criticism would be that we might have had 1Mb down link speed but you used to get that for 30 seconds and then you'd spend the next minute with 1kb... So overall it wasn't really that fast.

Thanks Nigel - anything has got to be better than this slow old dial up!! Lots of lovely pics on here, but I haven't always got time for them to download. I think we will probably have the wireless, as the forms said if there were enough people interested, that would work out cheaper for running cost. Will let you know how I get on.
