A friend of mine is looking for a brown, pedigree border collie. I don't know anything about collies - do the pedigree ones come in brown??

Can anyone help with info on a breeder etc. I only ever see black/white farm collies advertised round here.

Thanks

Theres a lovely reddy brown and white one at my training class, I dont know about its pedigree though

Mary Ray - top obedience/agility/HTM trainer has gorgeous collies bred by Mrs C Blakiston of the Woodsorrel affix ( I think they are called red/white in collies  )- KC might be able to help you track her and other breeders down. :luck:  :luck:

 Posted twice!

Heres a good site to start off with. It contains a list of breed clubs

And a pic of a brown and white one for you

 This is all a great start to their search - many thanks for your help everyone.

.. and that picture - what a cutie - the iggies want one for Christmas :teehee:

We have a red & white collie at our training class too, but the owner is looking to rehome him as she has found him to be too much for her. Not surprising really as she keeps him in his crate all day when he is at home, even though people are around all the time. He is also very aggresive with other dogs and can not be trusted at all at training when in close proximity to the other dogs. Its a real shame as he could be such a lovely dog.

i no you can only get red and white collies as ive had 2 there great temprement and characters ive never heard them being called browns! if you can find a good breeder there fantastic and make great search and rescue dogs. if you get in touch with the border collie trust in staffordshire they might have some good dogs in.

ive never heard of brown collies being called blue the blues that i no and the ones that my friend has owned have allways been called blue merle! the reds that i have had and no of have been of a brownish shade but allways called red and whites or red merles

This site is interesting. It shows all the various border collie colours and how they are inherited.

Really fascinating site. My neighbour has a beautiful Red & White that she does obedience with, she got him from Wales and the moment he is only learning, she was on the Crufts team with her last one but he unfortunately had to be PTS due to severe epilepsy (she was totally devasted) I felt awful for her as he was only six years old and just hitting his prime in the obedience (apparently it takes that length of time to train them properly) Mac, the young dog she now has is only a year old this month and nowhere near finished his training, but is coming along nicely. He has a super temp and is stunning......very headstrong tho! And totally different to the last one, altho Mac comes from a long line of agility and working sheepdogs so maybe that makes a difference? They are a very versatile breed.

This is my mother in laws dog taff. Hes nearly 15 now, but still gorgeous. He was a working sheep dog up until they sold the farm a few years back. Such a lovely obedient boy!!
