it happens in all types of racing not a nice thing to happen and when it does it always happens to a fancied one but thats racing i dont think thers much can be done about it

I race my ped Whippets and come across dogs like these regularly at races from club to open level........ I personally think the dogs that constantly lean, barge and bang the other dogs SHOULD be disqualified, as these dogs are deliberately impeding the other racers and they're the ones that cause the majority of injuries out there IMO ....... I took my 1 bitch off the track for doing this as I didn't feel it was fair on the dogs she raced with .......I hate seeing my dogs out there being bashed about by dogs that IMO aren't 100% clean .......

I have a little non-ped bitch, 17lb that ran both bend and straights giving 100% effort as a youngster. She was habitually bumped, banged, and barged on the straights by certain dogs and eventually after a major crack from one dog she sustained a bad hip injury.

I laid her off etc. and when she came back, aged two and a half, she started to turn her head and grab at the nearest dog near the finish line if they came up behind her or in close company she would just run at the back.

I took her to my local club aged three to see if she had got it out of her head, she had not and as there were pups/yearlings running at the club after that day I did not run her on the handicap until I had got her head sorted as I didn't want anyone elses pup ending up getting spolit like her.

I club raced her until I was sure she was putting effort in and was 100% honest down the track. I took her to opens at different tracks last weekend and she ran at the back both days, nervous. Saturday was the champs, another different track, she wasn't going to do great, she ran at the back again. Over the moon to announce that the first time today in a close company race despite the dogs crossing infront of her due to the wind blowing the lure over she dug in and finished right in the mix with the other dogs  .

At the end of the day I suppose there isn't much the can be done about "spoilers" (spoiling races and spoiling other people's dogs !!!) unless racing officials are aware and take the relevant steps to remove dogs from races by disqualifications and/or re-runs.

My wee Niki bitch bumped into China yesterday, after Kirsty missed her slip, and she had to make up a bit of ground on them.In my mind, summit must have happened for China,(who is a flyer) to drop back or summit, cause there is no way Niki should have caught her up.The rest of the race, for Niki's part, she ran absolutely clean.A few week's ago at Robert's show, when the lure bounced up into the air,and then out of sight, with none of the dog's having a clue were it went,Niki and China had another wee bump. Now none of these were intentional, and one thing i do know,is that Niki is a total coward, and wont even catch a bloomin rabbit,(fact),as she is affraid of them when they squeel. She has just started he racing carreer, and went through to the final of a 16 dog stake last week,2 dog's at a time, without any trouble.I guess that it was just unfortunate, that this happened yesterday, and may have been cause she was just simply trying to get behind the lure or summit. Now,on the other hand, there were dog's there yesterday, who alway's go on the attack, and should not be raced. For example,as ive stated in my post about the racing yesterday. My big Scruff pup,who was having his debut, and only his 2nd run at a lure, was harrased from the start line,to the finish line.Hopefully this wont happen again, but if it does, then it does, and there aint no point crying about it,cause it would only fall on deaf ears.Goin by my pix,Niki ran a good clean race after her (WEE ACCIDENTAL BUMP) with China. Now isn't it funny how Dazgail is never to be seen or heard off till he has these wee topic's to entertain him.Just kidding Darren.Gaves me the chance to exersize my fingers mate.Must take up the old Keyboard again mate, the musical one ha ha.Hey,gave me a ring,as i have lost youre number mate.

:- " Billy, i need something to entertain me....as i said i'm not intending to offend anyone who's dog has been involved in a bit of bumping, and as Coatsy has rightly said it's part of racing. I know pups until they know what the lure is all about are more inclined to mess about that bit more but i also think if an older dog is habitually impeding other dogs that the owner should do the decent thing and stop racing it. Just my views.

Depends on what's going on IMO. If your dog gets locked in with another during racing you will get bumping, it can't be helped, the only way either dog will get out of it is to drop back and give up.

However headturning and intentional barging of another dog is a different matter, it spoils the race and puts dogs at the risk of serious injury. Within non-ped racing, these dogs are usually disqualified but I also think it's in the owners best interests to ensure their dog is running clear before they even come along to an event.

Oscar started bumping other dogs, the first time he did it i thought there must be a reason why he did (he was only young), then is his 2nd race a couple of weeks later he did it again (sim coursing) and the race was restarted cos he just plainly got in the way, in the 2nd attempt he did it again.

i pulled him out, and felt very bad for the other dog

after a few months away from racing he did "grow up and sort himself out"

BUT WHEN HE STARTED BUMPING I STOPPPED HIM RACING

I will only comment on sim coursing as i dont know enough about straight racing, we have experienced a few challenges with my lass. for example if the course runs away to the right and the first turn is thus left handed and she is drawn white she will automatically in the second round cut across or through the red dog. This is simply because she has learnt the course and has anticipated and tries to cut the course. On monday this meant the red dog ended flat on its face. past the first gate she is always clean. I guess my point is sometimes factors for bumping could be restricted. For example in sim coursing regular course changes or even the angle of the slip or a heavier lure so its not blown left to right in the wind.

At Portlaoise Whislter Bumped another dog, the owner of the other dog told Frankie he would be prepared to do a re run and Frankie said no It was okay and pulled Whistler out.

At Florencecourt in Whistlers heat, he got bumped, still got a second. It swings in roundabouts, sometimes he bumps sometimes he gets bumped, you just cant predict!
