I was going to start Archie on Red Mills Racer as recommended at Crufts. I have a job to get it down here and spoke to a nice lady in the pet shop who always has Burgess in stock. The ingredients are very similar to Red Mills racer. Archie has a tendancy to be a pig, and get over-weight. He has mega bursts of activity every day and goes for broke running across the common aswell as trialling every couple of weeks at SC. Any-one any experience with this food, and is it right for us?

Sorry Jo can't help -I feed ours natures menu which is frozen BARF diet and chicken wings. That's what helped Vader's coat I'm sure.

Red Mills Racer is a good brand, although not as good as it used to be, can you not get any from a van at a dogtrack nearby? Never used Burgess although they say its great in the adverts!!!

Well, I am now thinking it might be too rich and put on weight....exactly what I am trying to avoid! He does have chicken wings aswell some-times.

I use Burgess Supagreyhound which is a maintenance diet so the protein is not so high but the oil content is higher than in normal complete feeds. I just use it as a mixer with tripe as a change from Pedigree mixer or terrier meal, so they don't get much a day but they all love it better than biscuit.

I have had the Burgess Supagreyhound Racer but it does not seem as palatable and has a higher protein content.

The other advantage is that it doesn't carry any VAT and I pay just under £7.50 a bag.

I feed Fred Nature's Menu too, along with Burns to make the Burns more interesting (he's fed up with Burns already  ). Even Stan has got bored with Burns and he eats like a horse. Never known him get bored with any type of food, but he actually picks out the meat (tripe) and spits out the Burns

I can actually smell the chicken when I open the foil pack, so it must be of reasonable quality. He does like it.

Sorry not answering the original question. Just realised I'm in the Pedigree racing forum too....definitely of no help whatsoever

I am mulling this over! I might come back with Burgess light to try over the summer! Of course chicken wings are supplements too!

Hi Jo, I feed mine Australian racer, and when not racing (over winter) wafcol, hope this helps,

lol shazxxx

I have come home with Supagreyhound......The pet shop is lovely and we decided to cut back on protein for a while.......Archie (my darling lovely fat show bred) is a tad over weight (his veg are at Rainbow Bridge waiting for him). He has loads of high protein little treats as Fynn is on HIGH protein good food growing racer pup food..........We will monitor the progress on this main feed, and I'll let you know.

Shaz, I am interested in Australian food.....BJ has promised me a look, but she is very busy with family stuff at the mo :( :( :(

If I remember Jo then I'll bring some to Glos on Sunday. If not keep nagging me. I'm so forgetful. If they like it then you can order it over the phone, send them a cheque and it'll arrive on your doorstep.

Barb, there is no rush, I would love a sample, as I need to find a good food for Fynn as he gets bigger. It sounds ideal. I'm hoping to get Archie's weight down a bit more over the summer, so will use this bag up and then order the Aussie if they like it.

Jo

Hope you are OK, see you Sunday

Thanks for the kind thoughts Jo they are appreciated. Alan's being a total brick. :huggles: Yes that is a b not a p (joke for those who know me. )

Dogs are being little stars. They aren't used to being left for hours and hours every day. Jest and Woody come with us and they seem to be coping with all the emotional stuff. Woody is such a devil. He stands and gives my mum his best begging eyes and she moves from her special chair so that he can sit behind her. Then after 5 mins he starts to push her off her chair. :b Jest meanwhile is making great use of my dad's slippers, though he'd rather chew my mums up, given the choice.

My dad donated an old pair of his slippers to Ol'Rosie when she was a pup nearly 20 years ago. So it's kinda sweet when Jest turned up with one having nicked it from somewhere in the house. Even if this time my dad didn't get to donate them to Jest himself it's been done in kind. So there's chewed up dad's slipper here at home and in my folks house. My dad had a black masked red fawn whippet x when he was a teenager so he had a soft spot for that colour. ;)

Thanks Malcolm,

The shop on your site in Stroud (GL5) All Creatures Great And Small has never stocked it.

I am going to do a weight loss thing with fatty through the summer and will then carefully consider which way to go with both my boys diet. Little pup Fynn is on a very high protein natural diet at the moment, and I may start him on a complete food with natural supplements soon but it will be the same diet for both dogs eventually. I might even do some veggie whizzing (w00t)

Hi BJ/Jo,

You can no longer get Australian delivered - need a local supplier now, we have given up after finding that the closest place we can get it from is Reading Greyhound stadium (the nearest rep is in Windsor), if anyone else knows of any other contacts in the Wilts area we would love to know. Thinking of going back to Red Mills Racer as we always used to feed this before we changed.

Darcia

Looking forward to seeing the pups tommorow (are you going to give Jest a trial BJ?) and to meeting Fynn Jo.

See you after 2 pm Darcia. Hope it isn't too wet

Hi Joanna,

Thank you for the information with reference to the local pet store; All Creatures Great & Small. I have spoken to Margaret today, the pet store owner and I have arranged our sales rep to call on her in the very near future.

Margaret has explained the wholesaler she uses and they do stock Red Mills products. Any customer willing to order in she will be more than willing to assist.

In return for your help with this matter, if you would like to e-mail my office with your contact details I would be glad to send a rep with a sample bag of feed for you.

Once again, thank you for all of your help.

Kind regards

Malcolm

Coo, thanks Malc  Might put little Fynn on it in the Autumn, and Arch too if he slims a bit.

Is it not delivered any-more to you Barb? My two loved it, so I might consider it in the Autumn. BTW, I weighed Fat boy Fat this morning, he's lost a pound! :huggles: The reason I know this for sure is a visit to the vets :b He knobbled himself last night and was limping very badly this morning (and in a terrible state over the thunder). Prepared for the worst, I took him down to the vet. As we got out of the car, a massive clap of thunder made him shoot into the surgery at top speed.......without limping. Got him in, the vet asked if I was sure I had the right leg  He seemed to have undergone a miracle..........I just stood there apologising and protesting that it was REALLY bad 10 minutes ago
