My father's 2 year old rescue whippet x has recently started to bury his rawhide bones! Not just the once but he later dug it up then reburied it a further 6 times in 3 hours.

Any ideas as to why he does this, and why out of the blue.He is the only dog so there is no competition.

Non of our previous lurcher dogs have ever done this.

Just as well Dad isn't fussy about his garden!!

I've got a bone-burier too :- " No idea why he does it, but it does make a mess!

He obviously wasn't happy where he buried it in the first place so tried elsewhere  he's just hiding the bone for later on

I've got 3 aussies and a lurcher. Sparky (lurcher) is a bit of a burier, but one of the aussies, Harley is a nightmare. He stole a pack of jaffa cakes whilst I was out, and buried them individually inbetween the cushions of my 3 piece suite!!! The other day tried to bury a sardine under a rug, and today a carrot in my washing basket!! Bless........

I think they bury stuff when they're not particularly hungry so they can go back to it later. Molly buries stuff down the side of the sofa  then Lenny comes along behind her and steals it

My late Father in Law had a GSD rescue bitch .She had been kept as a guard dog previously and he was after a guard dog for his new garden centre business it was a new business and was constantly been brocken into. He was advised to get a guard dog and as Zara had done this before and was considered not suitable for rehoming as a pet he took her on.

She had a large run and a kennel at the front of the property andalthough fed 3 times a day as she was very skinny when he had her she took to burying her food as she was convinced he wasn't going to feed her later so she always saved a bit just in case. She did this all the time he had her even though he spent many long days with her .She had the run of the property when he was around but regulary went beck to her run to check her food was still buried there
