BUSTER AND BENJI
Buster and Benji are 2 year old litter brothers who have grown up together. Buster is a gorgeous blue brindle colour with an adorable face. Benji is a beautiful blue boy with very striking eyes. These lovely boys were deemed no good for racing as they were afraid of the lure and as such have never raced.
Buster and Benji have had a rather unpleasant start to life, and are a bit timid and shell-shocked at the moment. They have not seen much of the world outside of their kennel and new environments are very scary to them. It is likely that they were also handled rather roughly as they can be nervous of sudden movements or raised hands.
They are truly lovely once they know you, however, and really all they need is lots of socialisation and confidence building. When they are comfortable in their surroundings, they love to play and romp together and we are sure they are going to love toys once they know what they’re all about.
Buster and Benji will need someone willing to put the time in to socialising them with new situations and remain patient and nurturing when they become scared. They are young dogs yet with their whole lives ahead of them, and deserve to be shown that not everything out there is scary or dangerous. With the right kind of owner these boys have massive potential to flourish and become happy, confident hounds who love life.
As Buster and Benji are very bonded to each other and gain confidence from the other, we feel it would be best to home them together. They could integrate into an existing pack, however, as they have been well behaved with the other dogs they have met. Initial tests have also shown that they might be cat trainable. This will be tested thoroughly by living in a foster home with cats before they are deemed as suitable to live in a home with cats, but cat owners are urged to enquire about them sooner rather than later.
Like most greyhounds, Buster and Benji will not need a huge amount of exercise. They will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch their legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
These boys have not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first few weeks and allow them time to settle in to the new environment. Really all they will need is time and patience and they will soon learn the house rules.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE 08/2010**
Buster and Benji are still with us, and are slowly coming out of their shells as they get familiar with our kennel routine. They know the kennel staff now and are friendly with them, greeting them with waggy tails. These two lovely hounds really need the individual attention, socialisation and training that only come from a home environment. They are sure to come on in leaps and bounds once they get out of the limiting kennel environment.
This gorgeous greyhound pair is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. They are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Buster and Benji, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!
