just to inform all BWRA members, that after great debate and study we now have the option of 3 x tracks to hold our straight championships on. The following are the details of all three tracks.
OPTION (1) MORETON IN MARSH GLOUCESTERSHIRE
This track is used by the WRCA for their pedigree championships and is in superb condition. It is set within a cricket ground, it has it's own club house with showers and toilets, and of course a bar in the club house.
The running surface of the track is very springy and in great condition , and can accomodate up to at least 270yds on a straight track.
The groundsman who looks after it for the Peds is quite happy to see that it is kept in this excellent condition for us should we wish to use it. They are willing to let us store any equipment that we may need to take there until such time that we hopefully find a permanent track for ourselves. We can also have the use of the tanoy system that they have. We will not be charged for skip hire as they dispose of the rubbish themselves, and we will not be charged for sewerage disposal.
There is ample room for caravans, the edge of the ground being tree lined so there is plenty of shade if you choose to park there, and they are willing to charge a reasonable price for camping.
At the side of the club house is a gate thet leads to a huge park, in the corner of this is another gate, when you go through this and turn the corner there is a little cottage hospital, then 500yds further on down a little alley way there is the town centre. This has a C0-OP, Tescos, Bookmakers, Fish & Chip shop, Indian restaurant, a Tai restaurant, that deliver meals if you want it. There were 5 x pubs that we could see two of which were AA recommended and did bed & breakfast, there was also a pharmacy and bakers, and of course all the local craft shops. The secretary from the WRCA was very helpful and offered to help in anyway that they can.
TONY COOPER ( chairman ) and I went to look at this venue today and highly recommend it, both from the safety aspect for the dogs, and the camping facilities for our members
OPTION (2) SWALLOWNEST,
this of course is where the NWWRF stage their championships, and is already known to a lot of whippet racers.
We have asked a BWRA member to measure the running distance on this track
and we could get approx 214yds in.
We also understand that football training has already started at this venue, so we would need assurances that the track would be in championship condition come August.
We also need assurances that we would have the use of straight fronted traps that were bolted together for all our scratch racing.
Any reps that vote for Option 2 would need to give assurances that the track was up to championships standard and that the straight fronted set of traps were available and bolted as required.
OPTION (3) KIRKCALDY
again this track is known to many whippet racers so they know what is on offer.
To decide on which venue to use we have asked every region to supply 2 x votes from their reps, this would give us 16 votes. In the event of there being a tie the decision would then go to the National Committee to each have a vote, if there is still a tie the Chairman would have the casting vote.
The National Committees first priority is to provide the safest and highest standard venue that we possibly can, and we promise to work to this end
regards Doreen
