As many of you know Im a newcomer to the world of whippet racing so I feel I can be forgiven for being naive about how things are done but the things I have learnt since Octobers AGM have staggered me. My partner and I joined the BWRA early in 2007 and because we think that its important to go to meetings like an AGM we made the effort to attend. I know by now you're probably yawning but bear with me (w00t)

This is where the naive bit comes in.........Since October I have been waiting to receive a copy of the minutes or to see it printed on either of the BWRA web sites, I have checked regularly and very recently a short message appeared on the web site saying drug testing had been reinstateded for 2008 and membership charges were going up accordingly but no minutes. I was staggered to learn from a friend that they had been published in the whippet news.

Please understand that I have no problem with the whippet news in any way shape or form but I choose not to subscribe to it and now I find that if I want to receive any kind of official information it is only available in this publication. I have belonged to various clubs and organisations over the years and never before have I had to pay a subscription over and above my membership to receive important information intended for the membership.

Why has the BWRA got not 1 but 2 websites if they refuse to put up to date information on them????

I respect anyone who is prepared to give up their time to contribute to their club in any capacity whether they are on a committee or helping out at events but the BWRA will never be able to attract new people into the sport until they communicate effectively with all their members and not just those who pay extra for the priviledge.

I have been told that the BWRA is a democratic organisation but to my mind it is impossible to have a democracy when the membership are not informed of upcoming meetings so they can make their feelings known to their reps and when they have to rely on second hand information about the outcome of anything. To my mind it is self destructive.

My suggestion is appoint an extra committee member, a PR officer whose job it is to make sure ALL the membership gets a chance to participate

Yours naively

Marie

I think the points you make Marie are extremely valid, not naive :D and the point that the BWRA does have access to the internet and could make the info from it's various meetings accessible to more people if they might chose to do so is also extremely valid.

Sometimes viewpoints of all racers, including newer ones are equally important and need to be taken into consideration.

  Well written

think ure right marie, but the bwra has been going a lot longer than the internet has. i no most things are now put online but there is life without the net.

I can not get my head around some of the negativity of some of the committee to wards the Internet and k9 for updates and information to it members Its called technology ...its like saying you should not have Mobil's to communicate with ...come on its the 21st century , if my 3 year old granddaughter, and 67 year old mother can use the PC theres no excuse for anyone

One of the most important factors with the Internet and k9 , (not the BWRA site as to me its not updated enough and just costing money , not meant in a bad way to wards the people who do spend there time in bwra site) is the speed as to how quick important information can be passed to our members example : if an open was on say at easington and it snowed badly or was to frosty resulting in a bend open been canceled ...a update can be added to k9 and you can bet your bottom dollar 99.99 % of whippet racers would know before they even left home to travel

Right you lot must know by now i am not out rock n rolling tonight by the amount of post i have made ...poor Gary has the man flu ,    :- "    (w00t)

I presume you would receive one prior to the next AGM commencing as we did in October before the meeting was held.

I've already suggested this in a post on the Top Gun Forum, so here's hoping.

My point is Piglet that the BWRA have already entered cyberspace, they have TWO WEBSITES and they dont put up to date info on either. Also before we had the internet clubs used to send out newsletters to their members, I have received many from clubs I have belonged to over the years. Which brings me to my main point the BWRA seems to be using the WN as a sort of newsletter and I object to having to pay for a newsletter on top of my club dues when there are two websites being woefully underused that I can access free.

Don't see any reason why the position of Secretary couldn't cover this, NNWRF manage it.

IMO any half decent organisation in this day and age, taking in the money that the BWRA do have no reason not to use the internet to their full advantage.

We were unable to go at the last minute as well Carole.

Ken is our reg rep, I am reg sec. but we did not get a copy of any minutes to take back to the members. I always photo copy them and send each club one to put up for all members to read.

That is a very good post Marie.

Hi All

I only joined the BWRA top table at the AGM so im still getting my head around things. Yes some people have computers but a lot of people dont Allison the Secratary of the BWRA has not and im sorry but at the moment I have a lot going on in my life to sit at a computer 24/7 updating everything that goes on. I do agree if possible every member should be updated as soon as possible of updates and changes that affect them. Allisons Minutes were to late for the Jan Whippet News but they will be in the Feb issue . Yes errors were made at the AGM taken proposals when they should not have been brought up till 2008 but no one can tell me they havent made mistakes and i bet there were some members at the AGM new that proposals should not of been put to the floor but said nothing. Dont you think its about time you got behind your committee instead of slagging them off at every chance you get. I know im going to get slated but ive got a broad chin. I will endeaver in the future if possible to help Allison out and update when ever poissible. But as ive said at the moment ive a lot of distress in my family and i carnt always be at the computer. But your area reps should keep you updated when ever possible. Your forms regarding Di & Bruce Bellwood will be posted to you this coming week.

Regards

Joyce Thoburn
