Out again today after a call by one of the farmers we have permission with. He has a plague proportion population of rabbits at the moment and wanted us to do what we could to thin them out. I had Jack with me and Jeff had Missy , his young black bitch
We arrived nice and early and were instructed where the main populations were . We were limited today as , due to the fine weather , several fields were out of bounds due to grass cutting for silage.
We ferreted several largish warrens on a banking on the first part of the farm and got 15 , a mixture of bolting for the dogs and netting.
We then moved on to several fields a bit further down the road which we have ferreted before which hold some nice open buries which are ideal for bolting for the dogs. We were certainly well rewarded as we got lots of great bolters and some spectacular catches including one by Jack that looked as if it was heading for safety and a gap in the wire fence only for Jack to turn it off the fencing and take it fine style after a couple more turns.
We ended up with 27 rabbits , two tired dogs that worked their socks off and a happy landowner , oh and not forgetting the ferrets, 2 hardworking jills
Not many pics today as the action was fast and furious ;D
1/2 way through the day
