CALLIE
Callie is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound girl. Callie was born on April Fool’s day and raced for a year and a half. She participated in about 20 races but her form wasn’t consistent and she was retired to us to find her a forever sofa. Callie has a beautifully marked white and fawn coat, with darker points on her face. She is quite large for a female greyhound and is a very striking girl.
Callie is very relaxed and calm in nature. She enjoys her walks and getting a break from the kennels, but isn’t overly excitable or bouncy. She is a sweet girlie too and likes getting chin scratches.
Callie is very good with other dogs both large and small, and would do very well if she had a doggie buddy to live with in her new home. She is currently being kennelled with her half-sister Robin, and they compliment each other very well. They could be homed as a very pretty pair, but can also go separately if the right home comes along. She has not been tested with cats but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required.
Callie has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
Like most greyhounds, Callie will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE 08/2010**
The gorgeous Callie took part in the Killarney Dog Show last week with her friend Robyn.
She behaved very well with the crowds of people and dogs, and got along brilliantly with everyone. She was a huge help in promoting greyhound awareness, and was a real attention grabber with her stunning markings and waggy tail. Callie is a very happy, social dog and is sure to make a fantastic family member.
This pretty girl is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Callie, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
