im in need of help my dog keeps ripping its toe nails out its lost about 4 or 5 nails now the vets have sent a nail off for testing and it came back clear can anyone help

When you say came back clear, what was the test ? Do the nails fall out ? Is it on different feet ? What condition do the nails appear before they come out?

i think it was a fungal test and there on all different feet his nails are very poor they are twisted and now one that has started to grow back has grown back sort of crusty

I've heard of Pemphigus causing nail loss in greyhounds. There's a few bacterial infections that can be responsible which are treatable with a course of anti-biotics when the appropiate culprit has been identified and sometimes nail loss can be auto-immune related e.g. lupus. Sometimes a biopsy of the nail bed is productive along with microbiology, cytology and mytology investigations.

I would ask your vet to investigate the possibility of Lupiod Onychocltstrophy, its an immune mediated disease of the nails , has been documented in whippets . Keep us posted on the answer from your vet and good luck

Exactly what I was going to say, a friend's greyhound has this and lost all his nails and the nails that have grown back are brittle and prone to breaking. It seemed to take ages to get a diagnosis so it's possibly not something all vets are familiar with.

my Annie had this problem at the same time she was also diagnosed with diabetes don't know if both conditions may have been related as she was too ill to undergo any deep investigation but while you are going to the vets its allways worthwile to take a urine sample for testing
