I’ve been reading articles about the limits that animals can run at. The author (from Stanford Univ, CA. USA) has studied Humans, Horses and Greyhounds and has arrived at a figure for speed of 16.66m/s. He has studied Horse Race times (1.5 miles) back to 1870s and Greyhound times back to 1927 (460-480).

He has concluded that both these animals have reached a plateau speed of just over 16m/s. If this applied to Whippets they should be able to run 150 yards in 8.5 secs.

100 yards in 5.7 secs or 200 yards in 11.4 sec

The nearer Whippets get to these predicted times the closer it will be to their ideal running distance.

Is there any one who has whippet race details that go way back – looking for distances and times? Please..

I'm assuming if you go "way back" for times then these will be hand timed?? and if so not reliable against digital times of today, i also would think different track conditions / weather would also influence the times in some way.
