Hi i run hydrotherapy facility in lanarkshire and am doing a bit of research in the canine community.

I would like to know whats the general consensus towards hydrotherapy?

Is it somthing you have used before or would like to use but dont know any local facilities?

What would you consider value for money per session for hydrotherapy?(i've seen prices range from £12 to £25)

Just a couple of questions to get the ball rolling

Any feed back will be greatly appriciated or if you have any questions for me feel free to post them

You can see my facilities at www.loaganville.co.uk (my website is not the finished article yet, work in progress)

Thanks for reading

David

I personally think its a great for rehabilitation from injury and useful in training. Muscles are worked but not shocked from a run on hard ground. Prices will always be a bone of contention. As we all know some vet prices are ridiculous and take full use of insurance money and know how to play on the heart strings of the general pet owner. There are specialists vets throughout the country who offer proper prices for a very good service and these vets will always be used. I would imagine the same with your pool.

my thought exactly as far as insurance goes, to my knowledge the big pet insurers changed there policys across the board around april 2009 from paying for hydro indefinitly to only paying for your first 10 or 12 swimms which i imagine could be a big shock to pet owners especially if your dog suffers from somthing incurable such as arthiritus, hip dysplasia or elbow dysplasia where hydro is only going to alleviate the condition rather than cure

Since the new rules came into being i have heard of 2 hydrotherapist in my area closing i presume due to over inflated prices wich dog owners were not prepared to pay when there insurer deserted them

I am all in favour of hydrotherapy treatment, it helped a bitch of mine back to recovery after a cruciate ligament repair, after only 4 treatments she was walking soundly again. Then it cost £10 a session but that was several years ago, I would expect it to cost more now. I would think at least £15 would be fair.

The pool at Ockendens Greyhound complex in Essex has closed and the pool at Barry O'Sullivans in Kent is currently closed as well.

Hi there. I am a masive believer in canine hydrotherapy. I have a wonderful little bitch...now 15 years old... and she had hydrotherapy following a big op. to repair a long digital extensor tendon injury, we continued all her racing life as she is very small and wanted to avoid strain to joints and tendons. She swam every week of her racing career more or less.and became a racing Champion and Veteran Champ. I have used it with another very small and accident prone little bitch who. at 8 years old has just been made up to Vet. Champ. I also swim my young dog to keep him supple and toned. We are very lucky in Somerset, we have a wonderful Hydrotherapy unit just 15 minuters from my home, run by a dedicated girl who is also a healer and holistic and Reiki healer. She charges me £14 for 2 dogs to have 2 10 minute swims, 2 ,10 minute sessions in the Magno box and a massage. Worth every penny!!
