The Care Of The Racing Greyhound has been reprinted at last which is great news as it's an excellent book.

Its had its name changed slightly to something like "Care Of The Rescue and Racing Greyhound" and Des Fegan is now listed as one of the authors.

It is Care of the Racing and Retired Greyhound and is exclusively available from "The Greyhound Star". I bought my copy a few weeks ago and am very pleased with it. I probably still have the details of who to contact, but I don't know if I can put them on here. Judy?

Have you (or anyone else who had the old one) got the new version Judy? I'm wondering if it's worth getting the new version.

Does this mean that Des Fegan is now famous? :)

I've got the same dilemma - to get a new one or not  Sue Wards got some and she says probably not but I think I'll wait to look at someone else's new version before I make up my mind.

This is the rule re- advertising Jo -

Promotion of any goods or services where the poster or their close associates are the supplier of the goods or services is only acceptable in ‘The Market Place’. As an example it is alright to post in General Whippet a link to a site selling a collar you have bought as long you or a close associate are not the ones supplying the collars. This post would not be acceptable if you knew the seller personally or stood to make any gain from further sales

So as long as you're not an associate etc.....

I've got the original first edition :D I was actually given it last year and considering it's selling on Abe Books for £200+ I think I'm very lucky to have a copy. I don't know if the paperback is the same (presumably it will be) but this book is practically a bible to anyone intrested in caring for a racing dog.

I'm no way associated, but I would strongly urge racers to either a buy a copy or get your library to get hold of one.

jac was this one of the dog books i got at the boot sale for you?(cant remember now as i got a few of them off one stall)

No it was the one the retired trainer gave you on the stall. It was one of the books I'd put into storage that I'd got out the other week. I've just had the paperback one ordered though because I'm scared of damaging the original.

oh,id better not tell him its worth 200 quid then! :- "

I was hoping that you had both and had compared them. Has anyone on here?

The new book claims to be over 25% larger with many new illustrations and photographs and material to cover ...

Geriatric problems of GH including cancer, kidney, pancreas and heart diseases

Heat stroke and problems with coursing GH

Metabolic problems including thumps and hypothyroidism

Expansion of tick diseases and a new section on immune mediated diseases

New drug withdrawal times based on current drug testing methodologies

Identification of Gh using tattoos, coat colours and DNA testing

Current and updated treatments, rehab/PT and excercise scheduling to return to function with musculoskeletal injuries sustained by GH.

Hope this helps. I will show my copy to Judy tomorrow and she might be able to give an experienced opinion of if it is worth shelling out for this copy.

As it isn't advertising, for any-one interested, here is the info for ordering. Apparentely you can pay by card over the phone too.

Well, if its 25% larger then maybe it will be worth it :D
