does anyone else think this is a farce, how can they expect a 14lbs dog(or bitch) to run a faster time than a 28,29,30,31,32lb dog, i think this should be scrapped

It's a bit pointless isn't it :- " ......and when smaller dogs do win the fastest time of the day, people say it's because the lure must have stopped the timer

also, at every champs meeting this year at least 4/5 races didnt have a time

my sisters dog deadly soloution didnt get a time for any of his races all day at the 3rd champs :(

imo scrap it....

 I agree julie how can you give one race the fastest time when other races did not get timed.

Back in 2003 this used to always happen to WCRCh Brown Eyed Girl :- " hardly ever had a time for her ;) It became a standing joke with me and my sister

What do you think - I think these dogs that never got a time used to antisipate the line and jump over the light beam!

The other thing is we could calculate the fastest time by taking into account a handicap. Or have a fastest time for each of the groups.

I think this is a good discussion item for the next talk-in or are we doing it on line? As I stated in my article in WN the times were so far off thay should be ignored - take them with a pinch of salt I suggest.

Well its just a fun thing anyway so why not give it ? Sure, the timer doesn't work every time, or more likely someone forgets to reset it in between races which is the way that timer works. But if its a case of giving it to the fastest recorded time or nothing then I think its better to give it. We have had a 22lb dog win it on the bend so its not always the biggest dog that wins it and I think Stripey Tara has won it recently too and I can remember Smartie winning it in the 22lb group too. I dare say loads of other dogs not in the heaviest weight groups have won it too, they are just the ones I can remember for sure at the moment. OK the bigger dogs have the advantage but then there are some very fast big dogs around at the moment.

Robs idea of adjusting the times could work, say 0.03 secs per pound. I used to run a weekly time trial competition at the Cotswolds years ago and used this method. There will still be some times that don't get recorded though, so it will never be perfect and if a fast dog's time is not recorded them there will always be some disgruntled owners. Still, it seems a shame not to give it to the fastest recorded time just because that dog might not have won it if dog X's time had been recorded and that time might have been faster. I think the answer is not too take it too seriously and accept that it only means that the winner got the fastest recorded time of the day on that track and congratulate them for it.
