CHINA
China is a 3.5 year old greyhound girl. She is an ex-racer who became too slow for the track and was going to be shot by her previous owner before KGC took her in. China has a very pretty face and a beautifully marked fawn and white coat that is sadly in poor condition at the moment. This will improve with some good food and TLC and she will soon be a sleek, shiny beauty. She is quite tall for a female greyhound, but is slender in build and curls up small.
China has not had the best life so far, and is sadly rather shell-shocked at the moment. She has been handled roughly in the past and because of that she has no trust in people right now. She doesn't know what an affectionate rub or cuddle is and doesn't know hands can be gentle. This will change with time and patience, and China will need caring, understanding owners who are willing to work with her at her own pace and not rush things.
When out on walks China is much more relaxed and is not bothered by noisy traffic. She travels well in the car and isn't hyper or bouncy. Though she hasn't been in a home before, she is clean in her kennel and waits to be taken outside to toilet. She's also a clever girl, and had the layout of our kennels figured out after the first day! She gets on good with other dogs, though care will need to be taken with the very small, fluffy dog breeds at the start as she might not realise they are actually dogs! She is not cat friendly.
This sad little girl really deserves the comfort of a soft sofa to retire to. She has the potential to blossom into a gorgeous, affectionate and trusting dog with lots of gentle one-on-one attention. She is sure to make a very rewarding companion with the right people.
China is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has been given a full veterinary check. A homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

**UPDATE 05/2010**
China has now moved to a foster home in the UK, where she is getting used to living in a home environment for the very first time. She is getting to experience home comforts as well as lots of love and cuddles, and is slowly starting to come out of her shell.
**UPDATE 06/2010**
China is slowly settling in to her foster home and getting used to receiving so much attention! Day by day she is starting to come out of her shell and we are gradually seeing more of her lovely little personality. All this girl needs is kindness and a bit of guidence and she is going to be a smashing pet for someone.
China definitely feels more confident when she has another relaxed dog to guide her and who's lead she can follow. As such we would ideally like her to go to a home with another dog already present who is well adjusted and confident.
China has been brilliant with all the dogs she has met, including small ones. She walks well on the lead and is quiet and non-destructive in the home. She can be left with another dog for company and is now fully housetrained. She is not cat friendly.
**UPDATE 07/2010**
China is continuing to improve in her foster home, and is gradually starting to relax now that the trauma of her past is well and truly behind her.
China is a very easy girl to have around, being clean and quiet in the home, ok to be left, undemanding of your time and good with all other dogs. Her only real requirement is to go to a home with another dog already established as she gains confidence and comfort from having another dog present.
Like most greyhounds, China does not need a huge amount of exercise. She is content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~
Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England and operates through a network of volunteers. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in both Ireland and the UK.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA. We work hard to match the right hound to the right home, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
We can be contacted via PM or through any of the following:
