Clarification....grammar/punctuation

If I'm writing- today's local newspaper

I'm correct in putting in an apostrophe -because of the 'belonging' rule am I not ? :clown:

My spell check is pulling me up on it

also......

Is this correct.........todays' ..........????????

Yes Karen, you wrote it correctly:

Yip, today's newspaper - it wouldn't be todays' as you would only put the apostrophe after the s if it is a plural i.e. the dogs' bones (if there are 2 or more dogs) or the dog's bone (if there's only one dog) :thumbsup:

I always thought the apostrophe represented a missing letter e.g "that's mine" for "that is mine"

So going off that there wouldn't (would not :- " ) be one in "todays paper"

it would be very convoluted sentence to be able to write todays'

the equivalent would be all tomorrows' parties (the parties that belong to all the tomorrows you can think of) .....can't think of one offhand that would make todays' correct, but wouldnt want to rule it out entirely.

however, for everyday language, today's newspapers is going to be the one you need :thumbsup:

Yes, you can use an apostrophe for conjunctions (did not - didn't etc) but it is also used to show ownership :thumbsup:
