Big thanks to Sail Aways owner Mark Warren who very kindly donated his final winnings to the Samuels Boxes Charity.

12 May 2004

Another really good turn out of 23 runners, 5 full distance trials & 6 pups going half way. There were also lots of spectators last night with a few keen on finding out about any litters coming up. Gin Pit now has a good list of 22 members with some (get your hands in your pockets :D ) still to pay.

All times back to scratch.

Main Handicap

Ht 1, An excellent win for Lacey Lastic, it was that obvious from this bitch's trial out of the traps that she'd done it before that i entered her in the handicap without seeing her run with another dog. She was off a handicap mark of 2 so this just shows how good a trial that was! In her heat she passed the front bitch & kept a good distance in front of the back marker This Way to win in a time of 8.77 (w00t) thrilling her very proud owners

Ht 2, This heat was re-run due to the red dogs trap not opening in the first run up, but the same winner with a little less gap than the first time from Blue Magic & I'll be back. Stormcloud 8.85

Ht 3, Poker sc & Photo Finish 2 1/2 both went over the line together with newcomer Max just behind so both went through to the final. 9.19 (for scratch dog)

Scratch,

Ht 1, Won by Moonpie from Simpson 8.47

Ht 2, Red Ranger from Massai 8.57

Pedigree's

Ht 1, El Diablo ran better this week giving away 8 1/2 to get up 10yd's before the line to win in a time of 9.62

Ht 2, Dove passed her kennel mate quite early on & took advantage of her good start to win in a time of 10.39

MAIN HANDICAP FINAL

Lacey Lastic Sc

Stormcloud 2

Poker 7

Photo Finish 9 1/2

There wasn't much in the back three at all but Photo Finish won the race in a time of 9.33

SCRATCH FINAL

Moonpie Sc

Red Ranger Sc

Red Ranger out trapped the bigger bitch & was a yard or so up on her for most of the race until she decided to run 50yd from the line to lost out by hd to kennel mate Red Ranger in a time of 8.41

PEDIGREE FINAL

El Diablo Sc

Dove 10 1/2

El Diablo trapped better but just couldn't decide what side he wanted to be on & followed Dove up the track who won by 3yd in a time of 10.20

Consolation

Ht 1, I'll be back won from Tomb Raider by the same start given in a time of 8.90

Ht 2, Betty's Blue had his side & stuck to it with the two younger dogs giving him a clear run to win in a time of 8.75

Scratch Consolation

Simpson won by 1 1/2 yd from Massai

Big thanks to El Diablo's owner Scott Frodsham who kindly made a donation to the Samuels Boxes Charity as he won't be here next week.

Racing for the Samuels Boxes Charity.

We held a raffle & all entries went to the charity, we raised a total of £145, big thanks to everyone who turned up to run with us & those people who gave more than their entry fee's (there were quite a few - you know who you are) also those people who couldn't attend but donated money, it's very much appreciated, whippet racing does have some of the kindest people.

There was a total of 26 runners & quite a few trials which was absolutely fab - now all you need is a decent handicapper who can cope with that amount of entries :D

I'll just add this picture of the members who hung about for their piccy's taken - thanks guys (and john, i'll get you next time :D ).

Samuel's mum & dad were over the moon at the very first fund raising event & wish to thank everyone who supported the event!

Scratch Winner Moonpie (Stewart x Hobgoblin)

Pedigree Winner Dove with her owner Hannah Smith (not a very good picture - sorry)

26th May 2004

Quite a few people & dogs missing tonight due to holidays & one thing and another.

Still not a bad turn out of 20 dogs & everyone had plenty runs.

All times back to scratch.

this dog is flying at the moment & won by a couple of yards from lacey lastic with True Faith 2/3yd behind.

Ht 2, Stormcloud - 8.77

Won by 2 yards from Foy's Boy

Ht 3, I'll be back - 8.80

Another who won easily from Poker in 2nd

Pedigree's

Ht 1, Ben - 9.73

This was a close race between the front runner Ben & the back runner Photo Finish, with Ben just a little bit in front

Ht 2, Irish Charmer - 9.61

This newcomer won easily to take her first heat.

Consolation

Ht 1, Lacey Lastic won in a good time of 8.75 from Foys Boy & Betty's Blue a couple of yards behind.

Ht 2, Photo Finish ran a great race to pull back 13 1/2 yd from Barney in a cracking time of 9.06 (w00t)

Ht 3, Daisy won this one from Dove, with Misty & Pheobe behind in a time of 10.23

HANDICAP FINAL

So did anyone tell I'll be back that he was supposed to walk this race?

As soon as the traps opened Sail Away flew! Just getting up on the line in a majority decision from I'll be back with Stormcloud 2 yd's behind in a good time of 8.55, he's so consistant with his times (should be one to watch at the champs!!!)

PEDIGREE FINAL

Ben won from Irish Charmer who lost her feet a bit in the last 20yd to win in a (poss pb?) time of 9.60.
