Hi all,

I recently viewed and put down a deposit on a lovely male Miniature Schnauzer puppy. He was 5 weeks old when I viewed and he’ll be eight weeks next week, so providing jabs go well the plan is for me to pick him up next weekend.

The breeder has been amazing and has been keeping my updated on him and sending over videos.

However, they sent over a video yesterday and I’m a little concerned that he now appears to have quite a red looking bottom.

I’ve attached some rather blurry screenshots from the video (apologies I would have uploaded the video if possible) where I spotted it?

Is this something I should be concerned about or not? I’ve not noticed it on any of the recent videos so seems to be new?

I, of course, am planning on discussing with the breeder, but just wanted to get some others opinions as I’m not sure if I should be worried or not!

Many thanks

Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to conclude anything from those photos. I'm guessing you can't post the video because you're a new member - could you email it to me at columbusrat@googlemail.com? Then I can post it and see what people think. But maybe wait and see first if any puppy experts can tell you what a red bum might indicate.

It could be that he is having a problem with a very runny tummy that is making his bottom sore. It is not clear at all in your picture.
A runny tummy / diarrhoea could be caused by worms or diet, or maybe something more contagious, possibly even Parvo.
I think it may be wise if you suggest the puppy has a visit to the vet before you pay any more money and be sure that the problem is solved before you take him home!!
I am sure you will be paying good money for your puppy!
If I was buying the puppy I would insist that It was checked over by the breeders vet and the problem solved before I paid the remainder and brought it home, also a very recent dated health certificate supplied with the puppy too!

.

Hi, thanks for your replies! Yes think because I’m newbie I can’t upload videos yet! However I reached out to the breeder earlier and they have sent me the image attached (warning, a puppy bum!) from today. It looks a little red but not as bad as it did on the video - but again open to advice.

The puppy is going to the vets next week for its 8 week jabs before I collect a day or two after. The breeder has said he’ll be getting a full once over from the vet as well. I wasn’t aware of a health certificate from a vet so that’s good information to have!

Don't vaccinate too early, wait until your puppy is 9 to 10 weeks of age before starting vaccinations (too early can be harmful). Your puppy at the moment will have natural immunity from it's mother.

Okay will keep in mind - just want to try make sure the red bottom isn’t anything to worry about!

Your puppy's bottom doesn't look very red or abnormal to me.

I wouldn't be unduly concerned.

Do you know whether he has been wormed regularly by the Breeder?
