COOKIE
Cookie is a sweet little brindle lass who has just arrived in kennels. She is an ex-racing greyhound girl who will be 4 years old in June. Cookie is a small enough girl at 26” to the shoulder, though she is a bit on the tubby side at the moment! She will soon be a sleek, slender beauty now that she is getting regular exercise. Her beautiful fawn brindle coat is shedding at the moment, making her look a bit on the scruffy side, but Cookie has been well looked after.
~ Personality ~
Cookie’s personality shows that she has been handled kindly in her past. She is super affectionate with a truly lovely nature. She loves being around people and dogs alike, and really is a sweetiepie. She has no hang-ups and is a lovely, well balanced girl 100% ready to be a smashing family dog.
~ Other Animals ~
Cookie is very good with other dogs, regardless of their size, and is generally a very happy, playful girl. She loves getting offlead time in the paddock and is such a happy lady. She has not been tested with cats but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required.
~ In the Home ~
Dear Cookie has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. This sweet natured girl is guaranteed to adore the home life.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Cookie is not a high energy girl and so will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
~ Where Am I? ~
Cookie is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and will be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe when a suitable foster or permanent home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick her up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting her, she will be fostered in the Norfolk area.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Cookie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhound Connection is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.
If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Cookie, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks!
