Hi Everyone,

I got a letter from the vets recently reminding me that Chloe is due for her yearly vaccinations. I called up and booked her in and just asked in passing how much it was likely to be. The answer was £44 and that doesn't include kennel cough. If I want that done it's an extra £29!! I think this seems an awful lot of money for yearly boosters. Does this sound reasonable to you guys? I'm wondering what the norm is for this kind of thing?

My vets charge £45.00 inc VAT. The other local vet charges about £34.00 including VAT. It may pay you to shop around. I stop vaccinations on my dogs once they have had their 10th Vaccination as I feel that they have built up resistance by then. I have not decided if I want to change vets yet to take advantage of the lower charges.My present vets are very close and the others are a short car journey away. 2 of my dogs are over 10 and will not be vaccinated in future. I trust my vet (the more expensive one) when an emergency occurrs as it did eariler this year. They dropped everything to help my beloved Peat who was in agony and I feel a strong loyalty to them as I have been with them for years. I do not do kennel cough as my dogs do not go into kennels. There are so many different strains of kennel cough that I am not convinced as to the benefit. My dogs has a mild form in November and recovered without any treatment. It is treatable if necessary. The Lungworm / Heartworm however I am opting for as it is a killer, and it is on the move throught the UK and once the damage is done, it cannot be repaired..

I work at a vets and our prices are £42.00 puppy vacs and £32.50 Booster . we are not thecheapest,nor the most expensive in our area . Kennel cough ( intrac) is about £36.00 . now done every 10 months

Just be careful that you do not take a dog that is in any way under the weather because they are probably not doing health checks at that price and the vaccine manufacturers state that they should only be given to healthy dogs which means NOT dogs that are on any kind of medication.

Personally, I have stopped doing boosters on mine and if there was an epidemic of something locally, I would do blood titres to make sure it was necessary before doing them again. I realise that if your dog goes into kennels, you probably don't have an option but if not, I am sure that every year is over-egging the pudding

we have had the £10 booster done at vets for pets and they still do a normal health check but not all offers are on at the ame time in all arrieas

my vet for a booster of both is £40,,if they need just the one its £ 25,,,I think my lot would need the first if the had to go into kennels, plus the kennel cough,,good that im not putting them into kennels this year.

My boys were fully jabed up about 2 years ago to go into the kennels,,it cost me almost £200 for 3,,,kennel cough also,,,it almost cost more for the vet and kennel fees for our 2 week family holiday in Spain

I work at a vets and we charge £24.50 for booster, £42 to include kennel cough - we use nobivac KC which lasts 12 months not 10 months as intrac does. Puppy jabs are £44 for the course. Just be careful with cheap accine offers , they try to lure you through the door then sell you lots of other things for a high price. Please be aware the £70 vaccinefor life i invalidated if your take your dog elsewhere for a vaccine at any point.

At the practice where I work it is £60 for puppy jabs and £27 for annual boosters(of course that's not what I pay though mwahahahaha)

I appreciate that there is a wide variety of charges were boosters are concerned. Let's face it though we are not actually just paying for a vaccination booster. We are also paying for a yearly health check up for our pets. My dogs get a thorough check up before they receive their booster. I think this is particularly of importance for those of us who are fortunate enough to have pets that may only visit the vets once a year a booster time.

Just edited to add that Beau's last booster in february cost £24.65 plus VAT.

I thought a lot of vets will no longer do annual boosters as deemed un-necessary? In our area one of the vets sticks to this and the other has has always carried on with annual boosters - things like kennel cough and leptospirosis are still annual though. Although I have noticed that every now and then they carry out 'booster amnestys' - where if you have lapsed you can have a full course done at booster price. Sue
