No hate please. I have a female miniature dachshund that is experiencing her first season. I noticed her vulva was swollen around the 28th June and instantly seperated her from my intact male. There was no sign of any blood only the odd bit of pink discharge. On the 4th July one of the kids let my male into the room with the femal I came in to find him attempting to hump her I instantly seperated them again. On the 9th July there was slight bleeding but not a lot. We are now on the 14th July and she now has swollen nipples is very quiet and seems to be off her food. She also had a brief bout of the runs.

Is this all normal or could there be something wrong or could she be pregnant?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello. First of all we don't do hate here we try to help when we can.

As I'm sure you are aware your little bitch is too young to have a litter. I think that without a tie it is unlikely that a maiden bitch has been mated- unless your male dog is an experienced stud dog.

I highly recommend that you take her to the vet to have her injected with Alizin which will cause any pregnancy to be absorbed. There is still plenty of time to do this as the treatment can be given up to 45 days after mating.

It is always difficult to have entire dogs and bitches under the same roof, especially with children in the house. I would consider having one of them neutered .

Accidents will happen! If it helps you feel better I have heard of a dog and bitch mating through the bars of a crate!

I agree with all of the above. Off to the vet and while you are there I would book her in for a spay in 3 months time when all her hormones have settled.
