Advice please. Got my 12 week old blue dog on Thursday. Having read several (sometimes contradictory) books I'm following the general crate training rules, ie, gradually increasing the time in the crate with me in view and then gradually increasing the time with me out of sight (so far we've got to 10minutes with me in sight). However, these same books also tell me to put the puppy into the crate to sleep overnight and to ignore the whimpers and yelps.

Won't this turn the puppy against the crate and undo all the good work being done during the day? : :(

There are different ideas on which way is best :- "

Have a look in FAQ there's a section all about night times which may help you

There are discussions about 'leave them to cry' and 'take them to bed with you' and you'll be able to see what worked for people and what fits in best with your life and beliefs

Thanks for that - only four whining/barking sessions of about twenty minutes each last night.

Only twelve weeks old but he's learnt to pose already...

I think we're going to have to ask you to post pictures, pleeeeease!!

I crate trained my blue bitch when she was 9 months old and i did this by having her by my bed overnight for a couple of weeks. (boy did she whine) then after a few nights she settled down. After a couple of weeks i moved the crate into the passage, no problems. Then I moved it downstairs and again no problems. Now she sleeps in it during the day on her own accord

Good luck
