Looking for advice. It's a while since I showed at a Ch Show and times have changed. Do most people crate their dogs on the bench, or do people still bench using benching chains. If crating do you use the soft ones or the metal ones and what size is needed to fit the space. Thanks in advance.

Jenny

I tend to use a metal one although the material ones are lighter to carry . This is so I can use a chain and lock it to the benching ring.

When the dog is in the ring I put my bags in it and put a lock on the door.Iknow if someone wanted to get in it they would but at least it would be harder than a material cage which could be cut.

I'm not to sure of the size it's in the car so I would have to get it out and measure it.

Owen and the pups do not mind the material cage but Bandit does not likr it and gets very wary of other dogs approaching him .He is fine in a metal cage he just curls up and goes to sleep.

The metal ones are far too heavy for me to carry and i find the material ones a God Send :D , I put a lock on mine and i cant see anyone ripping one to get in ,( hopefully )

Some still use benching chains but as you know not all dogs are happy with those , Mine took to the cages well, as we usually have one up at home cos the dogs use it as WENDY house  except when Woody is in it then its a WOODY house  :huggles: Some times there are as many as 3 whippets inside :huggles: :huggles:

The material ones are not only so lovely and light , but they fold up nicely too ;)

I agree Jax ,I much prefer the material one ,BUT Sharma is better in the metal cage .{she's been through 2 ]  ... So it's back to me humping the damb metal one around again. Carn dosn't care as long as he can get out of the way ,he's fine :p :p

Savannah will stay in a lightweight crate no problem. Teya the Terror won't yet, so we're back to metal crates. 30 inch crates will DEFINITELY fit on a bench. Though I did get a 36 inch to fit the other day at Leeds - but I think their benches may have been wider.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I might wait a little while to get a soft crate because Sparky is a bit of a chewer.
