Fleur, who is due to whelp 28th June, has developed a craving for avocado!! I'm a bit worried as never sure what is poisonous to dogs so limit her to licking the skins clean. She tried stealing one by jumpimg on the work surface. No mean feat considering the size of her!!

Has anyone elses pregnant bitch had a similar cracing?

P.S I'm pretty sure she is not deficient in any nutrient.

I know advocados are very good for pregnant humans, but not sure if it's so with pregnant whippies.

Can't wait to hear how she gets on, and I'm dying to see lots of puppy pics!!!

Any pics of pregnant mum??

i know that when you get a craving in pregnacy its cos your body is after some elment or vitamin in the food even if its just a trace in the food I had a thing for icecream and chalk with one of mine and the doctour made me up my milk intake and it whent I was lo in caslcyam sometimes its a mineral you need that why woman eat coal or soil.

you could fined out what vitamins are in there and try and help uping her intake in other foods

 if thats true fallenangel what could I get out of petrol then? (w00t)

I had a really bad bad craving for petrol, I used to nibble on firelighters!!

and now 8 years on I love the smell of anything toxic (white spirits, nail varnish, glue, petrol, smelly marker pens, gloss paint, etc) I could smell them for hours!

I think Advocados are very rich in iron, I remember my friend who was pregnant with twins being told to eat lots of them, me, well personally I couldn't stomach them lol.

I know of a Whippet who ate apples .......and Inca would kill for any type of nut when pregnant :)

chalk with one of mine

Same here, I ate it by the box full .....(still like it now :b )

They are all hydrocarbons. Can be dangerous if inhaled, can cause a serious brain damage.

I used to like the smell of them when I was a kid, especially acetone (waterproof marker pens, nail pollishes etc), now they mostly give me headache. 8) I would not recommend anybody to nibble on firelighters (w00t) :x

I find that pups often start nibbling on the corner of my brick house, but after giving them calcium tablets for few days they stop.

I never had a bitch eating strange thing just during pregnancy, they seem to like oranges and nuts and avocados most of the time, but one stopped eating alltogether for about a week.

She was the only dog so I knew what she ate or did not. In the end she gracefully accepted some lamb fillets (at $30 per kg) cut into small pieces and served to her in bed (mine of-course). After couple of weeks on lamb fillets I was able to gradualluy move her to other foods.

I do have to say that the nibbling on firelighters did stop when I had my daughter, but the love of toxic smelly things has never gone away, if I gloss in the house I close the windows and doors to keep the smell in!!

same as when I paint my nail's I usually have to do them about 4 or 5 times just for the smell (w00t) bonkers or what  :teehee:

Tina!!! Next we'll be finding you with an empty crisp bag and a tube of strong glue!

Must confess I'v always liked hydocarbons myself. They rock 8)

No cravings really when I was pregnant with twins just the realisation that maybe if i'd nibbled on something maybees I would'nt be pregnant... :- " .
