My llttle dog has hurt his leg and the vet said he needs an operation on his knee, to watch him you wouldn't think there was a problem, he runs and plays like a mad thing. He is 10yrs old and bit of a character and doesn't seem to be in pain at all. Having read the after care I panicked as it sounds horrendous for bob and for me and at least 2 months of being very careful, if not 3 months. Having just lost my husband in december don't think I can cope. Now thinking of just not having it done and hope he will be ok. I'm totally lost of what to do. Has anybody had the same problem. Help

I am sorry about your bereavement but if your vet thinks this operation is a good idea then there must be a reason. If you doubt your vet you could always get a second opinion. You say your dog isn't showing signs of a problem but something must have made you concerned to have taken him to the vet. Some dogs are very stoical and show little signs of being in pain.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. It must be difficult to deal with this problem when he is not there to discuss it with.

If you do not have the operation done then all the strain will be put on the Cruciate Ligament of the other leg. If this ruptures too then there is nothing that can be done for the dog as he will have two useless legs.

I know of a case where this happened. The dog was very overweight and the vet was worried that the second cruciate would rupture during the recovery period from the first op so he sent the dog away to lose weight. The owner did not comply with the vet's advice and the other cruciate ruptured necessitating the euthanasia of an otherwise perfectly healthy dog.

I don't want to worry you but if there was an alternative the vet would have offered it to you. 3 months care seems a lot now but once it is over you will look back and wonder why you were so worried about it.
