Just looking through an old catalogue from Crufts 1951

Whippets judged by Mr A. H. Opie

entry of 92 whippets.

exhibitors include Douglas Todd / poppy Martin and Molly Garrish entering in Special Beginners!!

Unfortunnately I dont have the class results - I hope JAX can remember (and do you have any photos JAX?)

Also entered NFC was a litter of 3 month old pups born December 1950 and the show was February 1951

Cannot see that happening these days :D

Some interesting adverts

I am sure Jax would of been there. Surprised she has not responded yet. :( Maybe she is looking up the results to refresh her thoughts of that day. :D

Alzimers, nah, just did not get the response then. (w00t)

However I wont reply to the "white & creamy with a long tounge" , I'll leave that to the girls.........

Er Dawn, remember its you whos got the catalogue not Jax, you may have shot yourself in the foot here. Unless you remember her selling the catalogues that day :- "

This has come as quite a surprise to me because I always thought Jackie, Dawn, Karen and Debs were all of a very similar age. (w00t)

So now girls (or should I say ladies) tell us the truth about showing when the world was black and white, what was it really like showing with your best coat and hat on, I've seen the pictures so I know that's what happened. Did your coat swirl round as you performed a perfect triangle, did they have triangles in those days or was it a quick there and back before your hat fell off. I'm so excited at discovering some original YKC members.

Unfortuanetly Jenny YKC never came in till the 1980's and JHA wa the seventies, so it counts the fore mentioned 'ladies' out :- " :- "

That was mostly in between classes :- "

When I started showing, NOOOOOO body ever showed in jeans (w00t) or had a massive trolley or even a cage, or reflective/barbour/fleecy dog coats, no one went home early and some shows you couldnt get out of until 4 or 5 o/c.

If you want more antiquated views you will have to ask the others :- "

I remember that too , :- " Althoug Im sure Karen has been showing MUCH longer than I have ;)

Its only since 2000 that I BOTHERED with a cage , Up till then mine were happy to be left on a bench , and still are , but I prefer to think they are out of harms way in a cage , But I must admit fabric ones are a `god send ` ;)

I cant see me ever having a trolly and as for `wheeling ` my dog into the show in one (w00t) to that I do draw the line . I always feel like commenting `oh look Libbee etc That poor dog hasnt any legs it has to relie on wheels
