DAN PADDY ANDY
Dan Paddy Andy, or DPA for short, is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound. Dan Paddy Andy was his racing name and it has kind of stuck! It was also the name of a famous Kerry Matchmaker who was immortalised in a John B Keane novel. Our Dan Paddy Andy is now looking to make a match for himself now that his racing days are over. He is a gorgeous blue boy and is in lovely condition now. His coat is satin soft to the touch and he has a striking, intelligent face.
Dan Paddy Andy is an adventurous, confident boy who greatly enjoys being about and about seeing the world. He loves making new friends and is polite and mannerly with everyone he meets. He has an adorable smiling face when you talk to him and seeks out his head rubs. He is also very curious and loves to investigate everything to see if it leads to more food! Being such a foodie, he will be an easy boy to train and we think he would be a good candidate for agility if someone could devote the time needed to teach him. He is a truly gorgeous boy who has masses of potential.
DPA gets on very well with our other greyhounds and doesn’t cause any problems. He has also been very calm and mannerly with the other larger dogs he has met out on walks, though he has not been tested with small dogs yet. This can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds take a bit of socialisation work to realise smaller breeds are in fact dogs as they would never have seen them before. He is not cat friendly.
Like most greyhounds, DPA will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
Dan Paddy Andy has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and allow him time to settle and learn the house rules. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
This gorgeous boy is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. Blue dogs are always in high demand and we know that such a hansom hound wont be waiting too long before his perfect match comes along.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting DPA, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!
