DANA

**UPDATED: JULY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.

Key Points: Excellent girl, very easy with few issues. House savvy. Very friendly. Good with other med-large dogs. Travels well. Walks to heel. Needs some work with small dogs. Super quiet and chillaxed. Perfect manners.

Dear little Dana is a 7 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who is getting a chance at some home comforts now. She is a wee black girl with a very pretty face and her coat is looking wonderful now after a good bath & brush.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Fantastic friendly, loving girl. Very laid back, confident, curious, playful, sweet as can be.

Dear Dana is a total sweetheart and is going to be a truly fantastic friend for whoever gives her some space on their sofa. She is extremely laid back and is one of those hounds who are just naturally ‘good’. She doesn’t put a paw wrong and settled into the home life as if she’d always been there. She is brilliant with people and other large dogs and is very affectionate. Her tail is always wagging. Despite her 7 years she loves toys to bits and its hilarious to watch her play with them! Nothing upsets this delightful girl and she is incredibly easy to keep content. She asks for nothing and is grateful for everything given to her.

~ Medical Issues ~

Dana has an old injury to her front leg that happened when she was a wee pup but never managed to heal completely right. She gets around fine and can run without issue, though she has had some trouble with climbing stairs. She is currently getting 2 30min walks a day and would need to be gradually built up to longer ones to avoid any stiffness, but other than that it doesn’t bother her at all. Dana has also had a recent dental and her remaining teeth are sparkly new now!

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Just excellent! Doesn’t do anything wrong. House savvy. Shares well with others. Very easy.

Dana has been in her foster home for 3 weeks now, and as mentioned, she hasn’t put a single paw wrong. She was 100% housetrained from the very start and has gotten on excellently with the 4 other greyhounds sharing her foster home. She shares very well and is non-confrontational. She doesn’t countersurf though is very curious still about what we would consider normal household things and shopping bags that suddenly appear at nose level are very tempting for her! She doesn’t chew anything though and will walk away if told ‘no’. She is fine to be left with canine company.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Fantastic with other greyhounds and medium-large breed dogs, needs more socialisation with small breeds.

Dana is excellent with other greyhound types and any large breed dogs, though she is still figuring out the smallies. Right now its clear she has never seen a small terrier type dog before so her natural urge is to hunt them. This will change with lots of positive socialisation though and is a common occurrence with racing greyhounds. They really just need some time and repeated chances to meet smaller dogs to realise that they are indeed dogs and not bunnies to be chased! Dana is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Generally:Walks like a dream, travels like a dream, needs work with small dogs, excellent in all other areas.

Dana is really excellent on the lead and doesn’t pull, even if she spies a squirrel or small dog in the distance. She also travels like a dream in the car. Like most greyhounds, Dana is a chilled out girl and will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Anything longer than this is possible but will need to be gradually built up to avoid her feeling a bit stiff and sore in her bad leg.

~ Where Can I Live? ~

Dana is so laid back and non-plussed, she could easily slot into a wide range of home types. She gets on excellently with other medium-large dogs and could become part of an existing pack, though a young puppy who might constantly bug her to play might not be ideal considering her age and old leg injury. She could also live with children over the age of 8 provided they know to give her some afternoon naps – this lady loves her sleep time!

Dana’s laid back attitude and gentle lead walking could also make her very suitable for a more elderly couple – really the only thing that needs any work with this lady is her opinion of small dogs, which our team can help any new owner with. This girl is just fabulous and we would dearly love to see her in a home sooner rather than later.

~ Where Am I? ~

Dana is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.

There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. Thank you.
