DANCER

**UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Dancer would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home.

Key Points: Very friendly, loves people, good with other greyhounds, travels well.

Dancer is a beautiful 5 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who is looking for a loving home of her own. She is a gorgeous blue girl who is in good condition and health, but really needs to put kennels behind her and discover the joys of a home life.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Friendly, affectionate, learning to play.

Dancer isn’t long with us so we are still getting to know each other. She appears to be a big happy, friendly girl who is always ready to get a hug and some fuss. She is very affectionate with people, especially once she’s met you a few times. We can't wait to see this gorgeous girl in a home of her own so that her lovely little character can really come out and blossom.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Not yet experienced a home.

Dancer has sadly not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Good with other greyhounds, will be small dog assessed soon.

Dancer is well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels and enjoys their company. She is still rather playful despite her 5 years and love a good romp around open land with other dogs that know how to play chase. She has not been tested with small dogs but this will be carried out prior to adoption. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! She is not suitable to live with cats.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks beautifully, travels well, enjoys her walks.

Like most greyhounds, Dancer will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. She will need a bit of work on her recall before she can be safely let offlead, and care must be taken regarding where she is allowed to run free as she may chase small furry critters including cats. Dancer walks like a dream on the lead and travels nice and calmly in the car.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Dancer is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Dancer is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She will be neutered before going to her new home. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Dancer, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:

Email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs.
