Button's black part of her coat is full of dandruff. The more you brush it the worse it gets.

She is now entered for Crufts in the racing and coursing class and obviously I want to get rid of it before then .I was planning on bathing her the week before crufts and then just doing her white bits the night before .

Can anyone give me any ideas of how to get rid of the dandruf in her coat? It isn't something she has just started with she has had it since we first had her in October

evening primrose oil, i was told ? or add a bit of butter to her feed , sas`s 2 packs a week she steals seems to do her well lol!!! lillyet told me to use the butter and oil when alices coat gets a bit dull

Bluebell who's also Black has a lot less dandruff when she's on Sardines in oil several times a week - She loves them too

I was reading the BARF threads last night and several people report dandruff when their dogs were eating Chicken Wings

I've found wheatgerm oil really helped Dippy with the dandruff...with her being mainly black it showed up alot.

She has it daily and I've found she only gets a few flakes rather than a overall dusting.

Get this shampoo from the vets Helen, MALASEB, then start her on a course of linseed oil capsules, flaxseed

Hi,

My Whippet greyhound is mainly black. We bought some Boots expert dandruff pre treatment, that you rub in before you shampoo with the same brand.Worked a treat!!

Amandax

Hi..All my dogs get a teaspoonful cod liver oil about 3 times a week and all have beautiful coats.

Bluebell gets a bit of dandruff and I`ve tried most things but the cod liver oil does the trick...keeps them supple too.

Right this may sound mad, but I had a Greyhound bitch with the same problem ....We tried it all so in the end I massaged baby oil in to Tabatha's coat every other day for about 2 weeks ....This mad her VERY greasy as you could imagine, so I then bathed her with a very mild shampoo ....It worked :D .....Oh yes and she smelt great

i did the same when i first got old Alf as he had been kenneled outside and his coat and skin were dreadfull, the baby oil and baby shampoo made him smell gorgeous  you couldn't help but cuddle him and sniff his head

my black boy oto also used to have dandruff, i found switching him to a gluten free diet made a massive difference.

i've also got some black coat shampoo, Helen, remind me before Manchester and i'll bring some with me for you

I give my black girl a teaspoon of linseed oil in her food each day and this has made all the difference to her coat, although it hasn't improved her bald patches. I am hoping this will improve after her season though. I got the linseed oil from a health food shop. I should really be taking it myself too!

Righty ho bald patches, jill had these yonks ago when i first got her, had her to the vets, couldnt find out the cause, but gave her a good shampoo, many reasons fer bald patches, stress being one of em , and another circulation, try this, every morning i take hold of my dog and massage her all over, she loves it, stretches out fully for me to do it, nearly climaxes her does, the right diet, love, and i firmly believe that linseed oil is doing the job for my dog, but what suits one dog, dunna say works on another.

Helen, if it got wosre since October it might be the heaters in the home, Fleet's has dandruff too all I do is keep brushing him and it is not to bad.

A bit exter oil is good but don't give too much as that also can make the dandruff worse.

Fleet is always bath the day before a show and the day of a show I get a dry cloth and brush him down and at the moment it works.

E;;a was dandruffy when she had a lot of chicken too, we did give her sardines etc, but she's a fusspot and doesn't like fish that much, so we've had to cut out the wings :(

Hi Michelle its not got worse she had it when we got her but I bathed her with dandruff shampoo and nothing has got rid of it . We put it down to her racing on sand the first time I bathed her a few days after she came to us a load of sand came out of her coat. She had been racing the day before we got her .Our house is quiet cool as we don't have central heating if its really cold William has to wear a fleecy coat in the house although the whippets don't bother William feels the cold badly

Corn oil from the super market. One teaspoon on her food twice a day. Takes about 3 weeks to see an improvement

I started last night rubbing baby oil into her coat and today the dandruff doesn't seem so bad. Probably my imagination though. I have tried this first simply because I had some baby oil handy but I will work my way through the other tips

Thanks everyone I knew I could really on you lot to tell me what to do

Helen
