DAVE

Dave is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who was retired from racing due to a shoulder injury. This is healed up now and will cause him no further problems now that he is no longer in training. Dave has a lovely white coat with black Dalmatian spots and black patches on his face. His coat is lacking a bit in condition right now but that’s nothing that a bit of good food won’t fix.

Dave is a lovable big guy who adores affection and soaks up any bit of attention given to him. He is well socialised with people and greatly enjoys your company. He is a very relaxed, easy going dog in general and should settle very well in to family life.

Dave gets on very well with our other greyhounds and is happy in their company. He is currently being kennelled with another greyhound called Kyle (in the photo below) and they get on very well together and are similar in personality and needs. We think they would make a beautiful pair if someone is looking for two houndies, though they can be homed separately too.

Dave has not been tested with small dogs but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds take a bit of socialisation work to realise smaller breeds are in fact dogs as they would never have seen them before. He is not cat friendly.

Like most greyhounds, Dave will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

Dave has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first couple of weeks and allow him time learn the house rules. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. We don’t think it will take him too long to find the sofa!

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

**UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2010**

Dave has now travelled across to the UK where he continues to wait for his forever home with his best friend Kyle. Ideally we would like to find these boys a home together, but will consider single homes too.

**UPDATE: DECEMBER 2010**

The lovely Dave has settled very well in to his UK kennels, and he remains a very friendly and loving boy. He adores any attention you give him and we know he is going to just relish the home life.

Like a lot of ex-racing greyhounds, Dave is now learning that dogs can come in all shapes and sizes. Right now he is quite keen on small dogs, thinking that he is supposed to chase them. With lots of positive socialisation with many different dogs, this boy will improve, and we are asking for experienced sighthound owners for Dave and his buddy Kyle who understand that their current reaction to other dogs does not take from their lovely personalities.

**UPDATE: JANUARY 2011**

Dave is still looking for his forever home, ideally with his friend Kyle, though they can be rehomed separately. Dave would greatly improve in a foster home while waiting to be adopted, and we would love to find him one soon – this boy has spent far too long in kennels.

This gorgeous boy is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed throughout the UK but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Dave, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks!
