Was bored and looking on web about whippets ( I know there are more exciting things to look at :D ) and found this stuff about dawdon............got me wondering if we could have a thread about the 'good old days'!! not that i'm sure they were :D Muareen was kind enough to lend me copies of 'signpost' from the 80's and I found some of the articles and pics (especially the pics) quite entertaining.

Considering some threads lately have referred to some issues discussed currently as being the same ones as years ago i wondered whether there were any official archives of nonped racing, or whether people all had their own?

Yeah ive seen this site before ...notice in Typical NWRF Handicap Arrangements for a Golden Jacket Event

All events are over 160 yds. Handicapping is 2ft per lb. Dogs run in one of three broad categories ADULTS (over 12 months), PUPS (9 to 12 months) or VETERANS (over 5 years).

Dogs and Bitches run separately.

ADULTS weight categories:20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35 lb.

PUPS weight categories: 21, 28, 35 lb.

VETERANS weight categories: 21, 28, 35 lb

Dog and bitch winners of each weight class will run-off separately in two weight groups (20, 23,26lb) (29, 32, 35 lb) to decide the two top whippets of each sex.

There will then be a two dog and two bitch final to decide the overall Golden Jacket Winner. Dogs receive a 2 ft sex allowance when dogs and bitches are together.

1996 i think it was, quite interesting reading some of the blurb...........interested in this bit

Question Do you win any money racing whippets?

Answer:One of our dogs won about £60 at this meeting But really you can't be in it for the money. Anything we win would only help towards the petrol costs.

How the hell did they manage to win £60 (w00t)

Their wee lass looks about 6 in the photo,,Caroline must be around 16 yrs now. Still remember the first time I saw her, around 2 weeks old and tiny,,but she's grown a lot since then,,bigger than her dad (w00t)
