Sat on the couch in front the TV, with my dog's head in my lap, softly stroking the very soft and luxurious fur behind his ears.

-and-

Lazy Sunday morning in bed (after his 05.45 walk \0/) when he jumps up and stretches out on the duvet between me and my wife, turns upside down with paws in the air and just looks at me, waiting for a cuddle so we can both go back to sleep.

This almost makes up for his barking at other dogs.  Almost ;)

What's your definition of bliss?

Seeing the happy dance when I come back from anywhere - even if I've only been away five minutes. Morning snuggles. Afternoon and evening snuggles too. When he makes little yip yip noises when he is asleep.

I love my girls, but "5" is just missing that 1 to 1 relationship that you can have with only 1 dog.

We have to give them all a share of ourselves and they give back as much as they possibly can, (we can't sit and cuddle 24hrs a day ) but we do have some fantastic walks on the Downs, the dogs stay close and read the news papers that others have left behind from earlier.(foxes, badgers, rabbits, etc. )  We try to be as fair as possible without any favourites.

BUT !!

Oh how I miss that 1 to 1 relationship !

At this moment there are 5 digs all sitting around my feet stinking the house out. They stole a load of fatty meat that I was going to put out for the rooks. Every few minutes there is a warn stench that rises from someone's bottom  .         Aah   Bliss !!!!!

That sound great, apart from the rising smell  :D   I did have to read the newspaper bit twice to understand what you meant!

The Daily Newspaper:  Other animal smells and marking points where the wildlife leave their "calling" cards to say who has passed this way !

Bliss - definitely the Sunday (or Saturday!) morning in bed with the dog stretched out beside me.  I love it!

We call the daily newspaper "peemail" :)

My joy comes from tiny improvements in behaviour. The day he comes back quickly from a "chase". The day he allows a stranger to touch him over his head.

Best of all was the day he really enjoyed being stroked and cuddled (well almost cuddled) by us.

I know what you mean about multi dog households, excuse me. We have vowed to never do it again. I honestly think that the dogs don't much like it either. Mind you it does not stop me getting broody over puppies!

It's funny how dogs can bring us joy in different ways - I was talking about just this last night with my neighbour who has a gentle little staffy.  And this morning, our little furry friend jumped on to our bed early for some snuggling and I really didn't want to get up!

T doesn't jump on the bed but we take it in turns to make coffee and bring it upstairs to watch breakfast tv in bed with it. When it's Mr F' s turn, Timber comes up for a visit and doesn't so much wag his tail but he wags his whole body - it's like when you see the videos of bees in a hive. Sweeeeeet!
