DENNY

Denny is a 2 year old greyhound boy who was not fast enough for the racing world. He is a big black boy who could do with putting on some condition as his coat is a bit dull at the moment. This will improve quickly, however, with some good food.

Denny has come to us just recently so we are still getting to know him. He is a little bit quiet right now as everything in our kennels is new to him, but it shouldn’t be too long before his personality starts to come out. He is a fairly active boy who enjoys getting out on his walks and seems more relaxed after a good offlead sprint around the paddock. Denny likes to be around people and enjoys getting fuss and attention.

So far Denny has been very good with our other greyhounds, male and female, and hasn’t been any trouble at all. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

Denny has not yet had a chance to experience living in a home, so new owners will need to be a bit patient at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. He would do well in an active home who would take him on daily walks and introduce him to the wide world outside of kennels.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Denny is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Denny, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
