Veteran Derby Vicky & Mark’s little flying machine MO CHARA added another top accolade to her glittering array of awards, nothing she hasn’t won, today once again she did them proud….taking Supreme overall from Joyce & Conner’s great all-round performer SHOWMAN (Retaining the trophy & top form from last year) well done!

The Award Sup Scr Rch Ch Show Three Outstanding Award kindly donated by Peter & Michelle, was nominated by this year by Jane Rowell (Sup Rch IBM)… Jane doesn’t run dogs anymore, but she still has a keen interest, and for the past couple of years has helped out with the Derby, for which we are very grateful….we asked her to watch the dogs all weekend, and she did just that (like everyone else she was soaked to the skin Sunday, the name she announced to me in the Presentation was no less than Andrew’s Rch CHARLIE PIG, well done Andrew & Johnny!!

And finally the main big event………

ENGLISH WHIPPET DERBY 2011

…..After a deluge of non-stop heavy rain, the day soon came and with it the final battle of the day…..the dogs were duly loaded, and owners nervously walked the track, they were soon over the finish line!!! This year unlike many others, the crowd depleted, most trying to dry out in their vehicles...the signal came from lure-man Tam to trap-man Piglet, both were ready and with one strong pull of the traps out the four finalists burst...‘The Classic English Derby final’ was underway, the owners shouting on their dogs with all their might, the few spectators bending the fence to grasp a look at the brave competitors. Front runner Prada had already proved unstoppable only a couple of weeks earlier, she gave everything she had, the dog in the white box gave an exceptional run, which was Ray & Rae’s Nch Eastender who wasn’t far away at the finish, you could throw a blanket over all three runners, but it was Elaine & Steven’s day today…with their superb little bitch Nch SKOSHI TIGER deservedly taking her third Classic of the year in fine style, she flew like the wind, improving with every stride…running neck and neck with John’s Prada from three quarters of the way up the track in a tight exciting final.

Skoshi proving a very gutsy-worthy winner adding her name onto our Classic trophy, Rae & Ray’s highly impressive m/w Nch Eastender in 3rd place with kennelmate Nch Barking Mad 4th (he was r-up in last years 2nd Chance Derby, a marvellous achievement having two dogs in the final) & 5th w/d Gina, Ken & Louise’s talented h/w Floless.

Skoshi litter sister to Ch of Ch's Zeus and bred by Pat & Nick Jobson & Andy Pockett.

A massive well-done to all the runners and competitors over the weekend!!

A full in-depth Derby report and photographs will be featured in the Aug W News, out next month!

We were very dissapointed not being able to be there, but with 3 bitches in season I don't think
