   Hi
   At how many weeks would it be fairly save to tell the color a border terrier will have?
   I've noticed that puppy's tend to be pretty black and seem to change color by the day.
   
   The parents of a litter my family can potentially choose a puppy from are both different: one black, one tan (licht). The puppies in the litter all have black backs. Will they stay that way or might some turn out tan/licht (no black back)? And if so, when/how is it possible to tell?

   Not possible to tell unfortunately. Is it particularly important? If coat colour is a really big concern, one option is to get an adult dog instead, so you can see what you're getting.
