DEWEY
Dewey is a 2-3 year old greyhound boy who was not fast enough for the race track. He is a beautiful blue boy with striking eyes and an amazing nose! Dewey is in good condition and has a lovely soft coat.
Dewey is a real gentle little boy and is sensitive to the moods of his person. He bonds quickly to people and likes to follow you around. He is a favourite among our volunteers as he is a joy to walk well on the lead and is very attentive.
Dewey is very good with other greyhounds, though he can get picked on by the big ‘macho’ boys and so would do best in a home with another laid back, calm dog for company. Once he comes out of his shell a wee bit more we think he would love to have a playmate to romp with in the garden. Dewey has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required.
This dear boy has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It usually takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
Like most greyhounds, Dewey will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
Dewey is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Dewey, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
