Can anyone help me with directions to East Anglia please? I think it's the M25 then M11 but not sure o:)

:) hi jaquie thats what i have been told too so if its not right me you will be on the m11 somewhere hopefully see you there

Depends on what type of driving you are comfortable with.

The M11 route is ok but then you have to turn off onto the A11 and follow the signs to Newmarket. Directing through Newmarket town centre is a bit tricky 'coz of the 1 way system, but basically look for the Exening Road. Once you are on this the playing fields appear on your left just before a large Tesco stores.

The easiest way is M25 (north) to junction 29 then up the A12 until you reach the A14, go west on the A14 until the Ely turning, at the top of the Ely slip road turn left, over a mini roundabout (watch for Tesco stores on right) and the Club track is immediately on the right after the Tesco roundabout.

This route is also, unfortunately, the LONGEST in terms of miles :(

There are cross country routes that can be used by those with local knowledge but it's hopeless trying to describe them here!

Thanks Ian and Jane :D Hopefully I'll see you there and not on the M11

Hi all,

The Lambton Playing Fields is on the A142 (known as the Fordham Road, Newmarket) near the junction with the A11/A14 (Newmarket Bye-pass). Our neighbour is TESCO - easy to find.

Best route is via A11 (if North or South) or A14 (if East or West) to junction with A142 Turn towards Newmarket. Two small mini roundabouts - straight on at both towards Newmarket. Playing Fields next to New Park and Ride (which is next to TESCOs). Our other neighbour is Newmarket Middle School.

Try to miss Newmarket Town Centre and Six Mile Bottom - on the Old A11 South of the town - best see your car route map.

Duckford - may also be a problem if their is any form of Air Show if using the M11. 8)

For those with satnav, the post code for Tesco which is next door to the playing fields is

CB8 7AH

Thank you all for your help  I'm hoping to get there Saturday afternoon with the caravan, so I will hopefully not hit too much traffic :luck:

What about the height barrier? Will it be open?

Hi All

The 'high gate' will only be opened to all those who either have no whippets with a chance of winning or those who cross my palm with silver.

Only joking!! :clown:

The gate may be closed when you get there - to stop 'unwanted travellers' from make it thier home until the local council gets a court order to remove them. But we have permission to camp all weekend, water tap and flush loos should be available for those who want to camp. Someone will be on site with the key to the 'high gate' from Mid-day. I think the Hendersons aim to camp and if they do they will have the key. Unfortuneately, our Campervan is still not on the road so the Rixons will not camp - but we are happy to leave the keys with those who do. I will be there during Sat afternoon. If you want to get there earlier I suggest you ring me or Ann Williamson (she lives in Newmarket) and we should be able to organise the opening of the gates and facilities.

great news rob see you on saturday then

What's happened to your campervan Rob? Hope it's back for your return journey to the North in July.

I'm really looking forward to the Northern. We usually go to the pub on Saturday night, which would be enjoyable if it wasn't for the 'smog' from the smoke in the Allison Arms. It starts my throat off, and I end up coughing all night. BUT, this year it will be smoke free - yippee!!
