Anyone else heard this news story about two young lurchers being found hung from a bridge in Leicestershire. Is disgusting how some people treat animals, imagine that they were probably failed working dogs who hadn't really been given a chance- they were estimated between 12 and 18 months old.

True. Just thought ages tied with someone who had rushed a young dog into work and wasn't pleased with progress. Didn't seem like they were much loved pets.

Again you are making up something which nobody else knows, your version maybe right but then again wrong, i would wait and see the real facts of what happened to those poor dogs before making these comments.

You're both right, we don't know why these dogs were killed or whether they were pets or working animals. Either way it is appalling that anyone can dispose of animals in this way. I don't want to come across as someone who is anti working lurchers. I have a lurcher myself who i work.

I have however heard of very distressing stories of people treating working dogs in cruel ways, including a friend of mine witnessing a spaniel being shot in front of the other shoot members after it disgraced it's owner by failing to retrieve. I am not saying that this is the way in which most working dog owners treat their animals- in fact quite the opposite, the majority of people who work their dogs have a great deal of respect , admiration and fondness for their hunting companions and treat them very well. It must be accepted however that there are people of ill repute out there who will treat animals as a tool that can be disposed of if proving to be an inconvenience- this of course can also be true of people having dogs as pets.

I think it is highly unlikely to have anything to do with them being failed working dogs connections with anti's etc etc.

The dogs look from the photo to have been kept in good condition. To go to such means to despatch them is too much effort.

I think it's more likely these dogs have suffered as a warning or a threat to someone and the matter is more a personal one.

Whatever the reason, the person responsible is mentally ill.

Whether we'll hear about the outcome is another matter.

In most of these cases the dogs are hung so they die a slow and painful death ...... This is to show the dog pure disrespect for failing to work for its owner !!!!! ...... In the place with the kind of people who do this the dogs are easy to come by be them either bought or stolen ......

I agree- very glad i was not there and also that i do not know where he lives. I do know however that he has never been allowed back out on that shoot and that he was reported to the RSPCA for cruelty to an animal (the dog did not die quickly as the shotgun was loaded for shooting pheasants, he shot the dog several times and it was screaming in pain- it sounded horrific to witness) he was also reported to the police for unsafe use of a shotgun- worrying his fellow shoot members by the sudden anger shown. I hope that this was all followed up but no-one has had further contact with this man. Made me so angry when i heard about this.
