Has anyone else had this DNA research thingy through the post.

It has lots of sample swabs for you to take from the dogs and you have to send them off with the dogs KC numbers.

Research is being undertaken to see how closley related the top 120 breeds are related the Wolf (I know Frodo is cos he just nicked my poached egg!! ).

The question is; Do I want someone to have my dogs DNA plus his KC number?

The test seems to have come from the Waltham Lab which is the home of Pedigree petfoods and you have to say that you wouldnt mind the DNA being used later in other anonamous tests.

I am in favour of most sorts of health surveys for our dogs but not sure about this, its not really linked to the KC just mentions them loosely.

Ive not had one Karen . Not sure what Id do though 8)

I wonder if they will send one to all 'Pedigree' Breeder Club members. If I get one I shall file it under 'B'. Sounds like a load of marketing codswallop to me.

Don't like the sound of that at all :b

Oh well thats confirmed my opinion, perhaps I will put it in the whicker filing cabinet -_-

How about calling the Kennel club to get their view? Surely if its a genuine useful survey they would know about it.

Sorry to be cynical but I take it you are fairly new to this lark Debbie as you CANNOT have ever tried to ring the Kennel Club about anything!!! You could speak with three people and get three different answers!!!

Here's a little example. When I imported Django and I registered him in this country I filled out the form appropriately in clear writing and photocopied all his Belgian registration, pedigree from the Belgian KC, plus his microchip information and sent it all in.

Our Kennel Club had THREE attempts at getting it right. The first time they had his name wrong. The second time they got his name right with (Imp Bel) after it ..........that should have given whoever typed in the info a clue to where he came from, and then in the box "Where was the dog imported from" ............IRELAND!!!! It did come back the third time correct but I was beginning to despair!

So, no, I wouldn't hold your breath that the Kennel Club would know anything about a survey!!!

 Dessie.

I must have been really lucky then regards the K.C. They have always been very helpful when I have requested any help, even calling me one evening regarding a puppuy name I was trying to register and wasn't available. She thought if she called it would save time registering the puppies and I have NEVER been passed on from one person to the next and they have always called back when they say they will.

Sounds like I might have beginners luck then!

Yes I have to admit that since they moved to Aylesbury, once you get past the automated exchange  and actually TALK to someone, they are very pleasant :* and I have had them ring me back when they say they would :) but whether they know what they are talking ABOUT i :b s a different matter!!!

But you'll learn!!

Sounds like a marketing survey (at best) to me - the round file on the floor sounds like the best place for this one......
