We think Teasel may be coming into season  Picco is always sniffing her :b but all of a sudden Leon has started to sniff as well

Her bits don't look swollen at all  but she does look a little more pinky down there :b

She's 8 months now (w00t) what do you think ? is she coming into season ? or are we just panicking again

Cheers

Steve

as dogs mature, they give off smells. as she'll be coming uo to puberty, her hormones will be kicking in, so naturally she'll smell intriguing :huggles: it doesnt mean a season is due straight away, just that her body is getting ready. i'm unsure about whippet ages, but from what i've heard here, shes a bit young perhaps?

does SHE spend more time licking herself? any sign of abdominal discomfort? mopey behaviour? even if a bitch doesnt 'swell up', she could be in season, as some swell after it starts, but all 'leak' a bit. in an older bitch, this is harder to spot, as they know the drill and clean up thoroughly. ambers 1st season distressed her :b as she didnt understand why she was making a mess, and thought she'd get in trouble for it :D after a few days, she started to clean up.

if it wasnt for swelling, we'd never guess when shes in season now, as shes so neat :huggles:

Chance's first season didn't happen until she was 28 months old!

about 3 weeks before the noticed swelling and blood, she got moody with other dogs on our walks, she went fussy with her food, and Binx was all over her! she wouldn't have nothing to do with him and growled a few times too which is not like her at all!

she also went very protective of me on our walks, she even went for a GSD that came up to say hi because he came to close to me, my heart was in my mouth!

I think Chance is coming into season again as she seems a bit grumpy and has gone fussy with her food again  last season was september btw.

8 months is young but not unheard of, just keep a VERY close eye on her over the next few days just to be on the safe side, also the FAQ section have tons on heat cycles

Its quite possible Steve. Best thing to do is dab that area every day with a white tissue or kitchen roll, you will soon see if there is any colour.

I don't know about the boys behaviour steve but spry was 9 months, I'd definatley keep an eye on her with the boys about (w00t) mine don't usually swell up straight away it's usually a few days in, I usually notice a couple of drops of blood first, but I don't know if that applies all round but all my girls are like that

awww is teasel growing up already

Have a look in the FAQ section of k9, there is a lot about how to tell bitch is coming in season, including my photos of what "it" looks like

season - photo of the relevent anatomy

hope this link works, haven't manage to post links lately. I tried several times and I cannot get the link to work, does anybody have any suggestion?

I find that my boys take a great deal of interest in any of my bitches approx 6 weeks before she comes into season and then that interest wanes after a few days and doesn't re-kindle until she come in properly.

Teasel is in seaon (w00t) I couldn't see any blood by just looking on Tuesday but wiping a damp bit of tissue paper over her bits :b showed there was some blood and now its very obvious she's in season :D

So do I count that as her first day  the boys don't seem that fussed at the moment probably trying to lure us into a false sense of security :b how bad are they likely to get ?

We had them them all in the same room last night with the boys on leads and it was fine, is that going to be impossible in a couple of weeks ?

I'm having visions of me having to move into my camper van with Teasel to stop Leon and Picco chewing through our doors :b

Cheers

Steve

i always keep Angel away from the boys for four weeks to be on the safe side.she always kept in a separate room were the boys can't get to her.

Same here Steve. As soon as I find a girly in Season they are moved to another room plus they use another area from the dogs to wee etc. This way the dogs don't get so upset about there being bitches in season. 4 weeks later they are back together. Count the first day you found blood as day one, to be on the safe side.

The clever boys "know" when the bitch is ready and do not get too eager before that. But keeping them totally separate for the duration is wise, or you may find she is ready by finding them tied. I had 2 litters concieved on 20th and 21st day of season, respectively (both deliberate/planned) and heard of pups being born from mating on 28th day. I usually give my girls good bath with special attention to the under the tail area on about the 21st day or when I think she is over, then see what the boys think of her. :luck:
